Hello, I'm new here, and I'm glad i've found this place.
I've been growing my hair for a year and a half now.
My hair is curly/wavy if that matters, and is pretty dry.
However, my main problem is that I usually tie it in a ponytail,
and lately I've been noticing more and more, that my front hair looks dry. I mean it has residue and it looks like it's full of fibers. I condition my hair almost daily and I put a leave-in conditioner every day, however it doesn't help preventing fibers in my hair, quite the opposite. I also barely use shampoo (something like once in two weeks). The only thing I've found useful in taming these fibers is a gel. However, I don't like the sticky dry feeling the Gel gives.
Do you have suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Really this is a shot in the dark and if I'm wrong others will correct me...
Try conditioning less, using less gel, and maybe try clarifying to remove all of that gunk and buildup. If you choose to clarify though make sure you get moisture to your hair right away! It's very drying. Also, you may want to find a conditioner without silicones to help combat your dryness. Suave and VO5 make some very cheap and silicone free conditioners that a lot of people seem to like (especially if you only wash with conditioner).
It depends what gel you use. There are some good non-alcoholic gels out there; I've seen awesome results with Suave Aloe Vera Anti-Frizz Smoothing Gel (lol, yes, that's a mouthful. I might not have the adjectives in the right order, lol). VO5 has a "smoothing" conditioner (I believe it's called VO5 Strawberries n Cream Smoothing Conditioner) that works well at taking out frizz. Try these out.
Clarifying isn't necessarily drying. Clarifying shampoos can be really harsh stuff, but clarifying conditioners leave your hair clean and conditioned at the same time. V05 Kiwi and Lime Clarifying Conditioner is good, as is Suave Daily Clarifying Conditioner.
If you still want to keep shampooing, I think you ought to try shampooing every once and half weeks or even once a week and see if that helps. It might be that you've got buildup from not shampooing often. If that still doesn't help, you could try not shampooing at all and conditioning with silicone-free conditioners every day or every other day. After about 2 weeks, you ought to notice less dry curls, but more curls all around (not using shampoo seems to make your hair a lot curlier).
HTH.
