Greetings Everyone!
Its been 9 months since I last got a hair cut and truth be told I am throughly enjoying how having long(er) hair feels. Up until now the longest my hair has been is about an inch and 1/2 before my parents would start saying I needed a hair cut. However after how bad my senior picture turned out(in my own opinion) I decided to hell with short hair, I have too many collics(The way your hair grows) To have it look half-way decent without a huge glob of hair gel. Not to mention for some reason it feels really uncomfortable and itchy
So I decided why not try to get long hair? I have refused hair cut offers from my familiar for about 6 or 7 months now. However, now that I have a possible job interview coming up. Both my parents "Insist" I get a hair cut. They keep saying how bad my hair looks. I have asked my friends and they say it suits me fine. I cant tell if they are lieing to me or not(Since friends will sometimes hide what they really think from you, so they dont hurt your feelings... too bad! )
So anyway, I am curious how complete strangers think I look. Note that this is how I look at the end of the day(Note the red/dark circles around my eyes!) So it may look... ... kinda creepy!

So how bad does my hair look over all? Is there anything I can do to make it look better?, Assuming it looks bad to some degree...
Heh, I have to admit; I have used this messageboard as a source for excuses and reason not to cut my hair before. But using info from someone elses case may not work this time, So I worked up the nerve to ask myself!
Thank you for your time...
Hate to quote your friends, but it looks fine. :P
No, really, it does. The side and back pics look good to me, and I think shoulder-length hair and longer could suit you pretty well. My only concern is that right now, the back hair doesn't show up too much if someone's looking at you from the front, but I imagine that'll go away with some more length.
As long as your hair's neat, you've got the qualifications, and you're punctual to the meeting, getting the job should be a breeze. Don't let your parents enforce a restricting rule like that on you, and go to the interview with pride.
Peace
Welcome, XavierCraig. Bad hair? I just don't see that, your hair looks great. Your hair is totally straight which makes it easy to grow all the way to your waist, if you desire, with a minimum of problems. Keep it growing.

Your hair looks great, and keep it growing. Your parents are manipulating you into getting it short, just like me back in 1977. They will look for the slightest imperfection and make you feel bad about it. Just ignore it and let it grow. Your parents saw and probably had long hair in their time.
Good courage to you,
Georges in Montreal
Dude... the question is not "how bad does it look?" it is "how good does it look?" and the answer is fairly good. It will continue looking better and better the longer it gets. Parents are stupid and they take their stupidity out on us. It's just how life works. Try and grow your hair as long as you can. The only way I would cut mine is if someone would die because of it. That or like I would get 100 thousand dollars.
I wish my hair looked like yours.. so don't complain. :P
I'd say that it looks fine and as far as looking professional goes, it seems really quite neat. However, this depends entirly on the job you are looking for, but unless you are going for a bible salesman, you are unlikely to have any problems. The front on picture looks like it is snowing for some reason, but that is probably something to do with your lens.
Gravity and length will hide the cowlicks very nicely.
Longer hair definitely looks good on you. It will just get better.
Find other fellow longhairs and network with them about jobs. They might be able to point you to friendly employers.
Don't worry too much about your looks - Others are too busy worrying about theirs to notice yours. :)
Keep up the good work!

Dude, your hair is looking great. It is only going to look better as it gets longer. You have the perfect hair texture for waist length and beyond. Keep growing and don't give in to your parent's nagging and demands.
Hi Xavier Craig,
who the ___ is telling you that your hair looks bad?? Are they crazy??? (My apologies for implying something potentially negative about your parents) Parents quite often say things like "Oh your friends won't tell you that your hair style looks really awful, they don't want to hurt you!" The truth is, friends often are a lot more honest and direct than parents. Often, parents are more concerned about what their neighbors might think.
The truth is that your hair style looks perfect and professional - don't let anyone else tell you other things. I'm very surprised that, in my or Georges' age group, there are still people that tell you otherwise - they seem to have completely forgotten their own experiences in the 70's and 80's.
You will NOT have serious job problems as long as you have good qualifications and present yourself as someone who is reliable and hard-working. Take every advice from some good "how to apply for a job / do a successful job interview" EXCEPT for the passages where they write that men (not women) need to have short hair. There are enough male doctors, lawyers, and stock brokers with pony tails these days.
Also, a long-haired male friend of mine who lived in Alabama (a state with a reputation for conservativism) in the 1990's for a while had NO problems whatsoever.
Most important: Make sure you feel good about yourself when you go for a job interview. If you feel better with long hair, you almost HAVE to grow it out to secure a good carreer.
You look great now, and you'll look even better in one or two years - provided you let it grow.
Peace, and happy growth!

OMG, your hair looks GREAT!!! It looks very neat and well kept. My hair is like yours (straight) and the longer it gets, the better it looks. PLEASE DONT listen to ANYONE that says you need a haircut. If you give into other peoples demands on your apperance, you give up your individuality and your individuality is what makes you who YOU ARE!! You're looking good buddy!! Keep growing it out, you'll be glad you did and over time, people will grow to accept it and you for who you are!!
Personally, I think it looks great. Probably one of the coolest-looking "mid-length" hairstyles I've seen. Bad hair? I don't think so.
i think it looks pretty good for being in the awkward stage. with a little more time it will look downright awesome. thats some great quality hair you have there. take care of it and grow it as long as you like.
Thanks for all the support guys! It really helped me feel better(been thinking too much about what they[my parents] said) about what I am doing.
No offense was taken from anyones comments so rest assured ^_^
As for goals... At first my dream was just having it long enough to tie it ALL together in the back of my head. So I can easily just get it together and use a rubber band to hold it there(I heard something about this not being a good idea, can anyone elaborate on it?) I just want to get that far for now... I am not sure how long I will grow it out to after that...
Its kinda hard to explain so I have decided to use some pictures to do the talking for me:

That is the point I desperately want to make it to. I havent decided where I will go from there... but I will cross that bridge once I come to it!
As for hair care, I rinse my hair with just water in the morning so I can part it decently down the middle. And wash it at night with soap and water, I am not sure if this is right or not... but I useally use bar soap to wash my hair. Can anyone tell me if this is bad/good?
Thanks again for all your replies!
...straight, very smooth, sleek hair--and just the right texture for growing long!
Good Luck!
Your hair looks fine man. keep growing it its going to look even better.
