Hello Everyone,
Since I have long hair since at least 1979, and near the shoulder since 1975, my progress pics are in a shoebox somewhere. I did dig up a sample of pics from different periods of my long-haired past.
The first picture is from a high school year book in 1976. The picture was taken in May of that year as my hair was nearing shoulder-length. Unfortunately I have lost the picture of me when my hair got to its longest for 1976. On august 18 of that year I cut my hair into a disco style which I hated, but my mom loved. I grew it back in 1977, cut it such that the ear lobes showed, in July of that year, and trimmed it in December of 1977 to an inch below the earlobes, and let it grow since then.
The second picture dates from 1981, shortly after I started my first job as a computer programmer. My hair was much thicker, and my mom often compared me to the Louis XIV look, but with natural hair instead of a wig. By 1981 my mom was more accepting of my long hair than in the seventies. That was because I graduated from college and got a job.
The third picture was taken at work, in 1998 at Université du Québec. I feel my hair was at its longest, but getting somewhat thinner. In 1998 I was 39.
The fourth picture was taken in March 2006, I haven't changed much since then.
When I was 17, in 1976 I was scared when I saw lots of hair in the shower when I washed my hair. I thought my hair was falling out, and that I would be bald like one of my uncles in my later years. I do remember, when I was 10 years old, and when my barber was buzzing me, he told me that long hair would make me bald. He asked me if I would have long hair one day, I said "Never".
In the early seventies, my mom was strict and told me to always get a buzz cut. It was in late 1974 that my barber told me that a buzz cut does not go well with me, and just gave me a trim. I was scared that my mom would give me a dressing down for having to return in one month to the barber, but she let me grow my hair.... until july 11, 1976, when everyone was convinced that long hair was out of style.
Have a nice day,

Asperger's Syndrome is a neurological condition affecting socializing:
It has been discussed earlyer in a thread on this board, and major symptoms include:
Difficulty decoding and producing subtle emotions.
Very often will look serious in photographs (goes well with
the new Canadian passport photograph requirements).
Panic reactions when faced with changes. (Cannot be friends
with a manic-depressive person:) )
Difficulties with inter-personnal relationships due to:
not understanding social non-verbal cues.
Difficulties with understanding lingo, slang, sarcasm (I can be sarcastic and "Pince sans rire"), irony, etc.
Can obsess on certain subjects, like calculators, computers, public transit systems, insects, birds, etc.
Can go haywire when routine is changed or put in question.
All in all, I can be very easygoing, and am slow-paced as well. I have difficulty with fast-paced and hyperactive people. My Asperger's syndrome has saved me from cult manipulation in the seventies, since it is hard to grab me by my emotions. Advertising that reaches people by the emotions doesn't manipulate me well.
Have a nice day,
Georges
Hi Georges,
Thanks for sharing your hair history with us.
This is a most interesting post and always great to see old photos of people.
I really loved your hair in the 1981 photo. Apart from the cool hippy look your hair was very thick and full looking. Your hair does look somewhat thinner as you have aged but this is perfectly normal. You still have a great long mane and no visible balding so i wouldn't fret over this. You do look younger than your real age. So you have had long hair in some form of another for the past 30 years. Now that just proves that you're a longhair for life!
...pictured, you actually look BEST in 2006!
And isn't that a nice feeling!
Good Luck!
