Hello all, as my title conveys i have a particular question regarding longhaired sports players. to start off my hair is about 13-15 inches now (a bit past the shoulders) and i find it a problem while playing sports and doing other outdoor activities. i can put it up in a ponytail it all fits fine and everything but i still get realy hot around the back of the neck while wearing a ponytail just about the same with it loose.
so now to the question. has anyone found a different method of controlling the hair while at play besides the pony-tail?
i want to be able to keep the hair off of my neck.. if i don't find a way i'm afraid i'm simply going to have to cut which i really do not want to do, so if you can help pleas do :)

I don't know how well this works but I have seen people fold
their ponytail up into a small bunch or bun and then put a pony
tie on it so it stays kind of in a bun.
Tie a bun or even a braid. As MG said, you can also tie a ponytail and then re-wrap the hair through the loop again. I don't know what this is called but it's kinda just like a ponytail, twice.

There is no reason to cut your hair.
Take your hair as if you are going to put into a ponytail, put it thru the hair tie once, then on the second time, only bring it thru half way, then fold this back up and wrap the tie around the whole thing another time. You end up with a little knot at the back or base of your neck, all out of the way.
And too there are bun instructions on the website of 'Gollan', located in the directory of users on this very board. I have never used his method, well, because my hair isn't long enough for that.
It will stay well for a couple of hours and out of the way, but the only thing I don't like at first is that it feels like the weight of the knot is tugging at the hairs on the crown of the head.
I have done this a good bit lately and it works for me for things like boating or riding in open jeeps and stuff.
I am going to include a picture, your hair is longer than mine, but the principle is the same, and it should work.
Hello Matt, I'd suggest a hat as one remedy. In a ponytail or by hand alone bend your hair back over your crown and slip a hat on starting at the nape and pulling it forward into place. Any amount of hair can be hidden up in a hat so this solution will help no matter how long your hair gets.
