Would it be possible to do a survey of everyone who has facial hair and or moustaches on the board? Wondering how diverse the longhair community is with facial hair. I just lately have started growing a new moustache and I wonder why I never did so earlier. I think its going to look great with the long hair.
I've notice a few other members on this site with staches like Georges from Quebec..I love staches and I hope I see more grown bc its really fun to have a moustache. After My moustache gets better I will probably change my aviator or avatar or whatever its called.
Cheers and happy growing to all
Peace
I have a full beard, nearly black in color, which I will periodically trim back to 1/4 inch and will let it get as long as 1 inch. I do shave the neck area and upper cheek area to keep from looking too overgrown every other day.
I think I shaved it all off once back in 2001. You are right, I think it does look good with long hair, even with longish hair like me, and can't imagine not having it now.
Pretty much since I could grow facial hair, I've had a beard or some permutation thereof. It's way too much work to shave each day, and I just love having a beard so. The goatee style is ok, but you still have to shave around it (high maintenance).
I would like to grow it longer one day, just to see what happens. Even with all the white hair coming in now, I still think it looks cool.
I had a beard up until yesterday when I trimmed it down to stubble and tried shaving it off. The stubble that was left over was about 10X as resilient as regular stubble though, and it didn't work out too well (the fact that I was using a junk razor didn't help much). I returned the razor and got another that hopefully will do a better job, but now my face is a bit irritated so I'm going to hold off on shaving till tomorrow. I've usually used electric razors and I've found they work faster, give a closer shave (I've heard the opposite more times than I can count, but for me electrics usually do shave closer), and leave much less irritation. They take a few weeks to get used to though.
I'm still keeping a "soul patch", for at least the next few months. I had a 'stache over the last summer, and then grew a goatee in the fall. My facial hair has >just< gotten full enough now that I can try pretty much any style I want, since there aren't too many bare patches.
I've currently got a full beard and moustache. As you can see in my avatar pic, I keep the beard trimmed fairly short. Since I left the Navy and started growing it out, I've trimmed it down to a goatee a couple of times, but ended up growing it back again.

ive been trying to grow a beard for the past couple months. i think its looking ok right now. i think it will look better once my hair gets longer.
After you do that, visit the equivalent directory at gaylonghair.com. You will find a much higher percentage of facial hair among the 92 longhaired men over there! Don't know why that is...
I think the reason for that is because facial hair is a sure sign of masculinity among many gay circles, (the hairier the better) and for the most part, gay men want to be seen as 'masculine', as opposed to 'twinkish'.
Don't ask me how I know this. I guess I'm well read on gay culture. LOL
I really prefer the look of facial hair as opposed to clean shaven. If i could grow a full beard i would definately have some form of facial hair. ATM, i have side burns and sort of a goatee, but much to thin.I like mustaches but it is definately an aquired thing, it doesn't suit everyone. Staches were really popular in the late 19th early 20th century i believe. Have a look at old pics of WW1 solders for evidence, every guy had one!
Goatee beards are also a good option because you get defined side burns and the look of a beard.
My most preferable choice is the look of a full beard, neatly trimmed to around 1 inch or so, no longer than that. Weston and Jason come to mind.
I like to constantly have about a weeks worth of hair growth on my face.
Considering keeping the cheeks shaved and fashioing it into soem sort of shortish goatee... possibly up to 3 weeks worth of growth.. no more than that.
I have a moustache & goatee.
I plan on growing the ends of the stache over my jawline.

I have this goatee right now that you see in my avatar. It's mostly what I wear, though I enjoy changing it over the course of the year. During late fall and winter, I let it grow into a full beard. As spring approached, I cut it back to the goatee again, and as summer approaches I will trim it down very short--maybe even completely shave. Fall will return and so will the goatee, and so forth.
I've had facial hair of some sort since I was about 22. It grows thicker (and a little grayer!) now than it did 24 years ago. Back then it helped me not look 16. Now, it just feels right. Go figure.

I have a big goatee witch I am going to let
get bibger and biger,I have no plans on cutting or shaving it
you could say I am rather attached to it
I go through periods of growing a goatee, shaving it off, growing it back again...
I currently have one that's a few weeks old.
I've never been without my moustache for the past 20+ years. I've had a beard with it more often than not.
Best of luck on your journey to longhaired/moustached greatness!

I have a full beard trimmed on the cheeks and neck (as it itches). I can't wait until my hair is long then it will look even better in my opinion.
Some people love it, and some don't. A girl in the office upstairs says i look like a tramp, but hey she is really concerned with the outer look, thats not where i'm at. Hair whether it be on the head or face feels very natural.
This will sound wierd but when my head was shaved and i had no beard i didn't feel relaxed in myself and felt a lot more stressed.
BTW you look waaaaay cooler with a 'tasche.
