Hey guys,
First I would like to stress just how much I would like to take pics and post them so I can become an offical member. :)
Thanks again for everyone's helpful comments from my last thread about family conflict and long hair stereotypes.
So now I'm asking you all for help once more. Now I know its difficult to figure out my hair type w/o pics but maybe my descriptions will suffice.
I love long hair, especially on better days when the straighter hairs hang on the tip of my shoulder. But washing is really a battle because of build-up.
I dont know how any of you are able to use conditioner, all of it seems to make my hair very greasy and causes hairs to stick up almost as if I applied gel. And I have not used gel or hairspray for many months. I have gone without conditioner a few times to avoid it.
So I tried using clarifying shampoos and guess what, still the same, that greasy feeling of build-up that at times feels like dry sealed hair. So is my hair actually greasy or is it just me? I can comb through it during a shower and the comb even feels greasy.
I know that my hair is curly and wavy after a ponytail but I cant figure out if its dry or greasy. My younger brother has greasy fine straight hair so genetics should tell me I have greasy but I remain baffled.
Everyone says I have thick hair and I would agree but it feels thin when wet and only thickens out after its completely dry several hours later. Its very thick at the bottom because my bangs are just entering the awkward stage, recovering from years of bad trims. I think its more of an illusion because the bottom thickness causes the top to seem thinner. It doesnt help when the bangs are really curly shortening them even more.
Another issue is hair loss. I have dark hair and hardly see it on my pillow or after shower only a few hairs fall out (and thats with deep conditioning). So my main concern is tangles because it cant be a good thing to never lose hairs right? Shedding is normal behavior so the lack of it causes your hair to look unkempt and unlclean? If it is buildup can there be any short or long term damage from it?
I just want to do everything right and make sure my hair is perfectly healthy!
Is it possible for anyone to discern my hairtype? :p
There is no 'official membership' here. You simply post a request to Oren to join the board of users and your photo and profile get added to the site.
I wouldn't be too worried about obsessing over what hair type you have. If you want our help you must post a picture. Text doesn't cut it. My hair is thick and curly. There are different 'gradings' of curly hair depending on the intensity of the curl in the hair follicies and whether it form ringlets, tubes etc. I'm really not worried. All i know is that i have medium curly hair, that's good enough.
Oh see getting a pic is hard because I dont have a digital and my family uses a film camera because they believe film cameras take better pictures. Thats why I commented on the official membership because I know you need an avatar of yourself.
Well my hair can form ringlets if I twist the hair strands a little, otherwise the curls are loose especially in the back where the weight causes them to form into tight but large wavy curls. But the top hair being much shorter probably half or 3/4 the length of the bottom hair easily forms ringlets when uniform. When I do get a digital camera I will post pics.
I just hate using Dry/Moisture shampoos when I dont know if I should being using Normal shampoo instead.
How about a webcam? they are cheap and some takes descent pictures...
That is something to consider. Are there any good ones that you know of? If you could list some decent ones or suggest some that would be appreciated.
Thanks Tai Fu!
