hey every1,
i need to discover who i really am as a person, i need to find out my strengths and weaknesses... so i have decided to start fasting for as long as possible. My goal is to go 40 days (without food) anything close to that goal would be great!
From now until the fasting is over, the only substances that will pass my lips will be water and marijuanna (no beer or alcohol will be allowed). I need to free my body and mind from all negative vibes...
Does anybody know if not eating for so long will affect my hair growth?! and have any of u ever tried fasting?! Thanx In Advance...
Peace & Love
Perhaps if you are attempting to find yourself, the best way might not be by drugs but by a natural expansion of your mind by intrinsic means.
Anyways, not eating deprives you of nutrients that your hair needs to grow healthy, and at the rate your body intends hair to grow at. The lack of these nutrients should have an effect on growth.
I think both the 40 day fast and the pot are bad ideas... and to answer your questions...
I went on a three day water only fast last year. It was interesting and instructive, but so are a lot of other things. But I will say this: spending an afternoon taking a dying 80 year old man to see his MD taught me much more about myself than the three days of fasting did.
Malnutrition and starvation result in hair loss and damage. The hair that grows during a period of malnutrition is typicly brittle and dull and may be discolored. Most of us are familer with the photos of starving children in Afica with red hair. Their hair color is a result of malnutrition. In some cases you can see a striped effect to the hair-- bands of damaged growth (created in a time of malnutrition) alternating with healty growth (created in a time of adequate nutrition).
A forty day fast is not going to be good for your hair or your body.
xxxooo,

I can't go 2 hours without eating after smoking pot...good luck fighting munchies for 40 days.
Seriously, though, I wouldn't worry about hair growth during a 40 day fast, I would worry more about your health in general. If you are very serious about this, talk with your doctor first. The marijuana ain't gonna kill you, but if you don't get enough supplemental nutrition, the fast might...
Even going a couple weeks without food, you will loose muscle. What happens is that the brain senses stavation so your body stores the fat. That is why people who go on starvation diets, end up gaining it all back plus more! I's not good for your health and defintely will deprive you of the proper nutrients for your hair. The best thing is to eat more meals, but lower portions. Good luck and I hope you make the right decision.
good luck not eating if all you're gonna be having is the mary jane haha
Only one I know of that fasted 40 days is Jesus. He didnt smoke pot, he is tough as hell (he took a nasty beating from a roman scurge, thats a whip with peies of metal and bones attached to it, even the toughest men from the US marines would drop within 10 hits from those, and Jesus took something like 40 of them, with the strength to carry a 400 pound cross for 3 miles afterward) and I dont recommend anyone to fast that long. Your body will think you're fixing to have a hard winter and therefore you will store fat, and will have a hard time losing it afterwards... look at those kids from africa, they have big ass stomach and they are starving.
the most I would fast is 24 hours, otherwise you can fast like the Muslims do, they eat nothing by day and eat at night.
Do you do this for Witchcraft and Occult purposes? just curious, if you don't feel like answering on here you can email me at:

not at all, I just felt that it is something i have 2 do... however i am strongly reconsidering my idea, with all the helpful advice i have recieved off all u guys!
thanx again!
Fasting is a good way to cleanse the body and to discovery your inner world. 40 days might be a bit excessive and dangerous to your health the first go around. Why not try a three day fast to experiment at first. You get most of the same benefits without all the side effects and harm to the body that fasting 40 days will cause.
If you do decide to fast, taking vitamins would be a good way to keep the nutrients your body needs and that should keep the hair growing strong even during your fast.
Tyler
I am inclined to agree with the others here, fasting for 40 days could do irreparable damage to your muscles and internal organs and result with a permanent problem with excess body fat for life. Lack of protein may cause your hair to fall out. Every pound of muscle in your body requires 50 Calories per day, even at rest. If your fast causes a permanent loss of 10 pounds of muscle, you will have to cut your Calories by 500 per day for the rest of your life, to keep the fat off. Having low muscle mass plus lots of body fat will greatly increase your risk for type 2 diabetes. Again, a 40 day fast is a bad idea.
A safe way to do this would be to fast for 1 day per week for 40 weeks in a row.
Absalom
Absalom is right. This kind of fasting would be damaging to your body. One of the effects of anorexia is hair loss. When you put your body under stress and it goes into starvation mode, your body starts feeding off of itself, and hair is one of the things that starts to fall by the wayside as your body struggles to keep the brain and the other vital organs in good shape.
There are easier ways to find yourself.
No offense Dude but do you have a death wish or something?
40 days not a good idea I would not want to go a day with no food.
Thanx for all your helpful advice... i guess it would be stupid to jeopardize my health like that. i am thinkin' twice about the whole 40 day fast. however i like absalom's advice "to maybe just fast once a week, for 40 weeks" that sounds achieveable and a lot less risky! i never thought of diabete's and stuff like that... thanx ya'll..!
You have chosen the most severe form of fasting to start with. Fasting simply means refraining from some food or drink. It could be refraining from anything, something, a few things.
Your goal is admirable. There are much better ways to discover who you are that do not jeopardize your health. I am a little stunned that you would allow only water and MARIJUANA and say that you want to rid your body of toxins. Do you know that there is far more tar in mj than in cigarettes? Have you seen the latest research on cancer to the brain and other organs that is significantly higher in pot smokers?
To do a wter fast AND to engage in a mind altering drug could take you to places that you cannot return from.
Reconsider.
Robert
You are flirting with your life.
If you do this you will die, or atleast be so close to death that you would be practically dead. I can't go a day without food , let alone for 40 days. I have a fast metabolism and get a headache and feel dizzy when i don't eat. I would be worried about your health more than your hair!
Pot ain't gonna help either. Stupid combination. Avoid!
Hi David,
as all the others explained already, going without food for 40 days is extremely risky, even if you have plenty of water to drink plus minerals etc, and, yes, it does promote hair loss (hungry bodies don't waste long strands of protein).
However, what you can do is to deny yourself TEMPORARILY certain things that you normally would enjoy, like certain types of food. this way you tell your body that it dosn't own you, but that you own your body. Or, you could exercise or practice certain types of behavior or build habits that you want to be part of your personality.
We can learn tons of things about ourselves when we try to build our personality in this way (but in other ways, too, of course).
If your idea of 40 days is inspired by the Christian lenten tradition (which I know is still strong in Ireland, after all, it was Irish missionaries who brought Christianity to Germany) - the Sundays are NOT part of those 40 days - just count and doublecheck yourself.
Whatever you do, make sure it is an expression of respect for your own personality - any brutal or unhealthy regime would not fulfill that condition. If you deny yourself certain kinds of food, then just make sure you get enough vitamins (eg. lettuce, fresh fruit, or possibly pills ;-)
In any case, let it grow while you keep growing!
Peace
Hans-Uwe
