Greetings again everyone!
Recently I have been going through these forums and alot of people talk about how often they use 'shampoo' or 'conditioner'(I think I spelled that right!) On their hair... Well this has spawned a question from me.
This may sound stupid... but what the hell; Is there actually soap that is made just for hair? Because I normally just use bar soap on my hair. Not sure if this is good or bad... But I thought it might be a good idea to ask here.
Thank you for your time!
unless you're trying to completely dry out your hair, i don't think you should use soap. even though it does clean it also dries out the surface it touches
When my cousin was in jail, she was washing her hair with soap and it was dry and knotty.. wouldn't recommend it..
Gee I don't know how you can use soap on your hair. I've only ever done it twice: first and last.
Doesn't it make you hair feel awful? To me it's like the opposite of conditioner. What I mean is, conditioner makes your hair smooth and slippery, so it reduces tangles and easier to brush/comb, but soap seems to make the hair feel like it's been coated in wax, like waxing a surfboard. Not a nice feeling for hair.
I really do think experimenting with various shampoos and conditioners is a better idea, and leave bar soap for other parts of your body.

HAHAHA, I would never use bar soap on my hair for the reasons mentioned. Your hair looks in good condition but when it gets longer i doubt this will be the case if you keep using soap!
Is conditioner something you aren't familar with?
Shampoo cleans the hair and strips away dirt, grime and excess oil from the hair.
Conditioner lubricates the hair and assists in detangling and protecting the hair shaft. Conditioner makes your hair feel soft, smooth and healthy.
Soap is for washing your hands after you have been to the toilet, not for washing your hair!
hi,
i think there are special soaps for hair (found them in google) but i think a 'standart' soap is primary made for washing your body ...
amaik soap can dry your hair out and the results may be unmanagable hair, damage at the hair ends or also a dry scalp ...
i think u should change to shampoos (for your type of hair) and conditioners ...
how long is your hair ?
greez,
ALH
I feel incredibly stupid right now because I have always just used bar soap on my hair since as long as I can remember! I think I will heading to the store later today!
In the picture I recently posted, my hair doesnt look as long as it really is, its about 5 inches all over(when I got my hair cut last, it was cut about 1/2 inch all over my head...)
It does feel abit soft, but its all stiff and wiry at the same time.
well there is no reason to feel stupid - as i can see in your pics below i think the soap hasn't done much damage ...
your hair looks really good in these pics !
but if u want to continue using soap, u should look for a special 'hair soap' ...
i haven't used soap on my hairs but i think that at least the stiff might be caused by the soap ...
try a shampoo+conditioner for a few weeks and check the difference ... i think it might be more managable and softer with these products ...
happy growing,
ALH
I often use soap on my hair. I only use natural soaps that usually have hemp oil and oatmeal in them like Dr Bronner's and Kirk's Castile, and i have no problems with dryness. The natural soap doesn't have harsh chemicals and perfumes. Grandpa's Pine Tar soap works great too, it really makes my hair shine.
You can also find shampoo bars on ebay and other sites as well.
