hi! i´ve read a lot of messages about that and I think that if you explain what do you want to the hairdresser, he/she will do that. if you say to him or she cut me 5 cm of hair, they will do that.I say this because i´m learning hairdressing in a "hairdressing school", and when we cut others people hair we do what the customer say, no more.
Certainly there will be some exceptions but I think that haidresers are very profesional, and I say for my own experience.
p.d sorry for my english!:-)
That's true. There have been some hairdresser disaster stories on here which kinda gives me a negative perception of hairdressers in general. I have this image in my head of this lock chopping hungry hairdresser!
I think with hairdressers you have to be very specific and clear about exactly what you want done. If you just say "a trim thanks", you may well come out with a few inches less :(
If you say something like "keep it long", it is bound to cause ambiguity and confusion in interpretation. What it long? Long is relative, long may be 2" to someone , as long is 12" to me.
It is no suprise that hairdressers wan't to fully satisfy their customers and make them happy, therefore repeat business, good referals , more profits etc. A disgruntled customer can ruin the reputation of a business by word of mouth and telling others of how shocking their experience was. Hairdressers wan't to avoid this at all costs to protect their business.
My mum loves her hairdresser. Apparantly, he has long hair in a ponytail and is really trustworthy and professional. I think if i met him i would feel safe to get a trim with him because he has long hair himself and can relate to others like me who are growing their hair.
At the end of the day it's just like anything else. The consumer should be cautious and well informed when making choices. If a hairdresser is offering cheap $5 haircuts and it looks really dodgy inside, i definately would not be going in there to get my hair cut!
