Heylo, for years Ive always wanted long hair but never got past the bob stage (about 4 months for me) and always had to get my hair cut! Im at 7 months now =) This would have seemed a long time if I had short hair and I would used to picture me with very long hair after this time but ive realised how little hair actually grows (for me anyway). My bangs only come just to the bottom of my eyes. It still seems short to me but maybe thats because my goal is double the length to what my hair is at now.
Anyways Im still happy at the growth now and I know in 7 months time Ill be very happy with my hair and look forward to getting through the summer and enjoying the winter and my life ahead of that with long hair for once.
The reason for this post was to say that after thinking about hair growth... Im happy it isnt instant anddoesnt grow any faster than half an inch a month because if it did, I think so many guys would have long hair. Its good that only people serious about having long hair have to take 'the journey'. It makes us individual as guys and other long hair people that may see you will realise how hard it is and respect you for having long hair. Every long hair guy I see, I wonder if they struggled through it like I did... I usually want to ask them if they had an 'experience' with their hair growth! Anyways this is all i wanted to share with you all and look forward to your opinions on this.... Also how many of you found it hard at times... and/or wanted to cut it after so long? If you rememebr how long it was too when you started wanted to go short again? Thanks! =) Adam
Hey Adam,
I have hair that reaches to about the middle of my back now. I did struggle with the idea of cutting it just about everyday unitl i finally realized that i just needed to stick with it. I have read on this hyperboard, and have experienced myself, the dreams of cutting your hair or someone cutting it while asleep. But it does show determination. I am happy that i didnt cut it, and hopefully never will (only if if have radiation therapy, or it gets torn off in some freakish accident). Sure i get some wierd looks form the older gereration of people, but thats cool with me, once they talk to me, they see that "the hair doesnt make the person, the person makes the hair". Also, besides those Frat guys who give the wierd looks (i think they are looks of envy), people are very open to it. Just do the rest of the long-hair male population a favor, and keep it clean. Stereotypes are wrong, but we have to live with them.
Happy growing, and remember, we have all experienced that feeling.

As a newbie, I feel hardly qualified to respond to this post, but every day I'm getting more of an idea about what it is to be a longhair.
I think growing your hair long could be compared to many other things that take a long time to do, but are worthwhile. I sometimes wish my hair would grow quicker, but the very fact that it takes so long to achieve long hair is what makes it so special. If it only took a week, none of us would be the slightest bit proud of what we had achieved, nor would we take so much care of it or hold it in such high regard.
I guess it's the difference between being handed a huge lottery win, and making a fortune from years of hard work. You tend to appreciate the latter much more, at least, I believe that would be the case having had neither of these.
Though I'm only a little ways into it, it is indeed a journey; a journey filled with difficult stages, both internal and external, but one that will surely be worthwhile personally.
So, in answer to your question, I guess it is fortunate hair only grows at the rate it does. If it grew too fast, we wouldn't be so fascinated with it, and none of us we be on this board, taking care of each other.

Wow man, you're really coming into this thing with a really good attitude. Most people going through the awkward stage get angry and cut it off or let it make them go crazy. You've really learned to apprieciate you're hair and journy. Congratulations! With an attitude like that you'll really be able to enjoy having long hair. Good luck and keep growing!
