...that does not contain any form of cones in it.
As we are all aware, although cones help protect hair and detangle it and make it soft, it can also cause a build-up which seals off your hair from accepting any moisture, effectively drying out your hair big time. I had this problem until i started rinsing out the conditioner from my hair THOROUGHLY and shampooing more often. My hair used to be extremely dry and i exacerbated this problem by heaping on the cones in my hair and not rinsing thinking it would stop this. wrong!
I have just brushed and applied a large amount of natural conditioner in my hair and my hair is dripping wet:)
Fallen Angels - I remember you said that with natural conditioner you don't have to rinse it out and it's safe to leave in because it doesn't contain cones. Do you leave all of it in? how long?
I think i will still stick to my typical cones conditioner(and rinse well) but for a good once a week deep conditioning treatment this stuff might be the go. I will post results soon.
BTW, it was extremely cheap and i got a big bottle for $2.
Well, I personally leave in like 25 - 50% of it in my hair after I'm done bathing - it counts as my leave-in conditioner. This is apparently a common thing to do for people on my haircare method.
I know some people that leave in all of the conditioner and that leave none in; it's just whatever works best for you. I've tried leaving none in and there weren't any bad effects. When I leave in a lot of it, my curls are all bouncy and curly, and they sure smell nice, too. :P
Oh, and I usually leave the stuff on my head for anywhere from 3 to 20 minutes before rinsing anything out.
Leaving it in is safe to do, but just don't cut back on your shampooing or clarifying, as leaving anything in your hair will cause some kind of buildup in the future.
Thanks for your helpful reply. I think it was you who recommended to try a natural conditioner without silicones.
If the results are good i might even start using it everyday and scrap the cones stuff.
I had really bad experiences with Pantene(lots of cones!) and i definately won't be compromising my hair with that stuff ever again.
I have left it on for about 2 hours and already my hair feels really nice and the curls look well defined.
Don't worry, i do shampoo about 1-2 times per week to remove build-up and stuff. I am really enjoying the results of Sunsilk shampoo for curly/wavy hair, you should give it a try. My hair feels incredible afterwards and nice and soft with defined curls and much less frizz.
Do you just shampoo the scalp like what most guys on the board recommend?
I shampoo the whole hair thorougly and i find it works more effective to remove build-up and stuff. If i just shampooed the scalp it doesn't really do that much. I'm still experimenting but i think i am finally developing a good hair care regime and knowledge of products that are most compatible with my hair.
I also like to deep condition my hair about once a week. Drench with condition and brush through with a wide toothed comb, rinse later. It really brings back the life to my hair and keeps it healthy and looking nice.
Sheesh. Yeah, same here, dude. Pantene Hydrating Curls was anything but hydrating. Garnier, while I used it, was farrrrr superior.
One thing you might notice is that your hair won't seem as shiny without the silicones. That's what I noticed the first time I stopped using them. It goes soon enough, but your hair is rarely ever as shiny as before. I personally think this is a good thing. Looks a lot more natural.
Well, I don't shampoo at all, or at least, not with shampoo: I use my conditioners and/or clarifiers in the way I'd use shampoo. And whenever I'm specifically trying to remove buildup, I don't just do the scalp. I spread the clarifier through the length of my hair. It's really far better than just doing your scalp. Normal shampoos, or specifically their sulfates, are far too drying and damaging to my kind of hair. My hair's improved a heck of a lot on this non-shampoo method. One significant thing you'll notice is that the less you shampoo, the curlier your hair gets. So yes, my hair is indeed curlier than before. :P
Well, I don't do this exact thing, but I often take insanely long showers so the conditioner gets left on for like an hour or so. :) I've heard that conditioners may stop conditioning after a certain amount of time, though, so maybe an hour is the most you can get out of them.
Good luck with your hair care! Oh, and I'm getting a card reader for my camera in a couple days. So I should have the progress pics up soon. Yes, for real this time, lol.
