There's a frightening article on hair trafficking at the Village Voice website (link below). It tells the story behind some of the real hair that's used for extensions, braids and weaves, and how it's often obtained by less-than-scrupulous ways.
I was going to list this post as off-topic, but considering we get several posts a month about extensions, perhaps it's not.
