Dean...you seem to know a lot about hair. I'm thinking about growing my hair...should I? How long should it be? Also, what are the advantages of having long hair?
I hope to hear from you soon,
The new guy on the block,
Little Dave....
I know the question is for Dean 316 and he will more than likely answer you But Id say YES myself to the shoulders would suit you well Good luck on what you decide :-)

Hi "Little" Dave,
I think you have a great face for long hair, it would suit you perfectly well. I'd definitley grow it.
Of course, in the end you'll do what makes you feel good whenever you see yourself in a mirror
Happy growth!
Hans-Uwe

Do you know Dean personally or just from the internet?
I see you are learning to drive and i am assuming you are in Australia because of the rego and license plates.
Growing hair is a very personal decision between yourself and no one else. For me, it was something i deeply desired and wanted for many years, it was just like long hair is supposed to be a part of me and my identity. The best way to find out about the 'long hair experience' is to grow it yourself and see how great and powerful it can be.
Sorry for the late reply Dave; one thing Ive learned for sure by having long hair for many years, is that when it comes to being really sick (I have a bad case of Whooping cough at the moment), long hair cant help you all that much.
Although there is the consolation of knowing that even though youre sick, at least you still look good :-)
As to your questions
thinking about having long hair is the first step my friend.
From personal experience Ive found that many guys like/admire/or wish they had longer hair, but never seriously consider growing it themselves. Why is that?
There are a number of reasons, mainly centered within differing social and cultural contexts.
The reality though is-getting back to your post!-that we only get one life-so why not break free and do something a little different? This most definitely includes exploring the potentialities of your own body (in this case, hair growth).
So to answer your question simply: yes you should grow your hair. In my opinion at least once in your lifetime.
Many boardmembers have done so-and successfully-at later stages of life, but why wait? Being young, is an ideal time to experiment with growing your hair.
As to length? This I cannot say at all. MANY members here have reported that they originally had a goal length, but that this length changed with time.
Just be happy knowing though that growing your hair out the first time is the most fun time, as youll never know what to expect!
There is no should be here. Hair growing is above all an act of individuality. Sure you will have people commenting on what you are doing (i.e. choosing to do with YOUR body), especially when it is your first time growing your hair, but that does not change the fact that your hair is coming from your scalp and you must decide what you want to do with it.
& If you have questions or concerns along the way then you have a place like our community here to help you.
Finally advantages. Fun time hehe
- helps you better explore your own identity. May even BECOME your identity or form a major part of it.
- helps you stand out from the crowd
- is fun to play with. For you and for others!
e.g. Having your hair loose and flying in the wind is one of the best feelings ever. Trust me.
- There are numerous styles to choose from. For example if you decide just to let it be, it can be really exciting to see your hair changing every month and getting longer. Progress baby!
- Teaches you to care for yourself better. The Conditioning process in the shower will teach you the patience that the Karate Kid could only dream of possessing!
- Many girls/women love long hair on men. The key is to be confident (not cocky) with it. The thing is, that while most women I would argue find a man with well-kept longhair sexy, the ones that really dig long hair on guys (and there are quite a few out there), go Crazy for it!
-Become part of a worldwide community. This board attests to that.
It is so hard for so many of us, dealing with societal and familial and peer etc etc pressures, that the ones who do persevere and grow their hair long, really feel a sense of pride. Thats why when many of us are walking in the streets or whatnot and see a fellow longhair there is a certain level of respect there. Some even give/receive the longhair nod as we cross paths with each other.
-At the most basic level, what all we longhairs have in common is that we think that longhair looks cool on men, and thought so, before we ever had long hair (for most of us).
It is your body and you must decide what to do with it. But I think you would look great with long hair.
Just treat your hair right, from the beginning, as it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run (ha! A pun).
By the way whereabouts in Australia are you from? From the colour of your P=plate Id say Victoria somewhere?
All the best mate! Hope I was a little bit of help here.
Thanks Deanof316! And thanks to everyone. This has been a great help. And yes I am from Victoria..out in geelong if you know where that is. I shall grow my hair...and with it my new identity. Whooop dee doo!!
