just curious, how many of you participate or go to Renaissance Faires? if you're just a guest and not working one, do you go in costume?
MGM LionessI plan to attend Fêtes de la Nouvelle France in Québec city, from august 2 to august 6 2006. It is still in development, as no official schedule of music shows, and other activities is ready yet.
It will be my first real Ren Faire, this one has a theme of Québec during the 17th and 18th centuries.

If the event turns out not to be to par with my expectations, there is nothing to regret, since Quebec city is a beautiful city, for its historic architecture, and great vistas.
Have a nice day,
Georges in Montreal.
I have yet to attend a Ren Faire, but I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms.

We have a very nice RenFest in Maryland where I live. I am only a casual observer when I go, not doing the costuming or anything, but I love the food and the music they have there (big fan of Renaissance dance music).
I had posted once about all the terrific longhair I see at our Festival and how it was interesting to almost feel like a minority when I went last year with pretty short hair. I am so glad I did because I got to meet a few members of this board in person who are really cool when we decided to all meet at the RenFest.
These festivals are a lot of fun. Where is your festival at Maryann?
Scarborough Faire south of Dallas Tx starts Saturday.I have my season tickets.Been going for 25 years.Usually in costume, sometimes not.I play a drum for a belly dance troupe at faire. Some times go to the Texas ren faire north of Houston.I'm wearing one of my ren shirts in my avatar pic.

I went to the MD Ren Fest with Chris G and Elizabeth Regina from here, and then again with another group of people. I don't participate or wear costume, although I know someone who helps in one of the stores there.
I've been to the Georgia Renaissance Festival near Atlanta, but I did not go in costume. It seems like it would be fun, but a lot of money to put into something only worn once per year.
I can just see myself now getting stopped in costume by the Georgia State Patrol. He steps out of his car, walks to the side of my vehicle, and goes, "Son, where the 'h' are you going dressed like that in such a hurry?" "Can you please step out of the car?"
You do see lots of elaborate costumes however of those both working there and just visiting. I suppose if you could sew, one would not have too hard a time making your own. I actually have seen patterns that look pretty easy to make for medieval costumes and such.
LOL, you reminded me of an incident that happened to me once on our way to an SCA event. I was following my Baron in his truck when I saw a couple of poles come off the top of his truck (the bungie holding them snapped) and go bouncing off to the side of the road. My wife and I pulled over and I hopped out to run back and grab them. So, here I am, in doublet, puffy shirt and thigh-height swash-topped boots, jogging along the side of I95 in between Baltimore and DC with morning traffic going by. Figure I got more than my share of double-takes.

Oops, looks like its one-pic-per-post, unless I missed something...Heres Chris looking nervous with the juggler...
Chris, you were brave to go up there with Michael Rosman and his flames near your head! -===:-O Thanks for sharing the photos, SkiPirate, I'll be sure to meet you this year.

I'm also SCA and then do Md Faire as often as possible, almost always in garb. Had the chance to hang out with ChrisG one afternoon last season, although I was out of town when some other folks from this site met up there.
Attaching a few pics of Chris I meant to share with this group sooner, they're from last October I think - First one is he and I with a wenchy friend of mine, in the others Chris got pulled up onstage to assist the fire juggler (who naturally made a comment about longhair and flames!)
What barony are you from??
Jim
I would LOVE to go to a rennaissance fair but they don't hold any where i live unfortunately.
I don't participate, but i do attend every year. Our local
one has gone down hill in recent years, they all (even the
vendors) stayed in character, that has gone down the tubes
in recent years.
