My hair is still long and I haven't given up on it yet. Anyways, I got rid of that Garnier Fructis Smooth & Sleek because of it's awful smell on hair. This really stank, but did an 'okay' job on frizz, I guess.
So, I switched to TRESemme 'for dry or damaged hair'; I got the shampoo and conditioner. I tried it, but the frizz was unbelievable, just ridiculous. I went to the store as soon as possible to pick up TRESemme 'smooth no frizz' ultra light shine spray. I think I wasted my money because I should have gotten some advice on some of these ingredients:
ALCOHOL DENAT., CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM)
avoid contact with eyes
Warning: Avoid overspray on counters and floors as silicone leads to a slippery surface.
Are these harmful to my hair? I am so concerned about that alcohol and silicone. Maybe I should have just tried something that specialized in frizz. Thanks for reading. Sorry abou the long post.
Hi Ein,
I have found this type of product useful as a leave-in conditioner after washing. It has helped me to get rid of frizziness and of split ends.
The idea is to put this clear thick oily fluid on the hair after washing (eg with water and conditioner). This way, it'll be easier to comb or brush the hair, it'll develop less tangles.
IF it is NOT thick and oily, that would be due to the alcohol. It seems that the only function of the alcohol is to make the fluid sprayable. You could just leave the bottle open for a few days, and some of the alcohol should evaporate, and the remaining fluid should be more oily and less aggressive. But then you won't be able to spray it any more, and you'll have to pour it on (which still should be o.k.)
If you find that this fluid leaves your hair too dry and brittle, then I'd go for some thick fluid with dimethicone / cyclomethicone (or cyclopentasiloxane / cyclohexasiloxane), or, alternatively, some pommade-like grease instead. Hair growth needs SOME silicium compounds - but a balanced diet should contain enough of that.
Hope this helps - feel free to ask more questions.
Happy growth in any case.

Will these ingredients hurt my hair overtime? Wait, so I just leave the bottle open, then I have to pour the stuff onto my hands (which is ok with me), and then will it be harmless??
thx.
It may not be totally harmless, but it'll do much less damage once a good deal of the alcohol has evaporated (speed up the process by keeping the open bottle at a warm and dry place - with NO open fire nearby, alcohol burns easily). I'd finish using that bottle, and if you need more, I'd simply buy something without alcohol. That way you should be o.k.
Best wishes
