I was playing some old SNES wrestling games the other day and i couldn't get over the amount of mullets, hehehe. Almost all the wrestlers had long hair but they were dead-set short at the front which is a mullet. Some of them included Shawn Micheals(yes he had a mullet in the day, has 'proper' longhair now), Diesel, Razor Ramon, Eddie Guierro(RIP) and so many others which i don't remember their names.
I really enjoyed the early 90s WWE(WWF back then) and it was the best era for wrestling. These days i find it very commercialised and it's just becoming silly alot of the time.
I remember my cousin got me into wrestling cause we used to go to the video shop and hire out all the old PPV events such as Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble.
My favourite classic wrestler is Brett Hart and my favourite new wrestler is Triple H. Long hair and wrestling will always go hand-in-hand , just goes to show that long hair can be masculine and 'tough'. Infact, alot of wrestlers loose alot of their stature without their hair. Kevin Nash didn't seem to have that tough look anymore after his drastic short haircut, IMO. Atleast wrestling is another long hair friendly environment, along with IT, rock musicians and other occupations.
Don't forget Crush! Haha, now THAT was a mullet.
I agree with you; wrestling was much better in the early 90s. I grew up with McMahon's cartoony vision of wrestling and will forever love it. The early 90s WWF style would never cut it nowadays, but I reckon the NWA/WCW style from the same period would work wonders. Pretty much everything has been done in wrestling and it seems WWE can't just go back to basics instead of trying too hard and coming off as a bad soap opera.
I worry when the day comes that the Ted DiBiases, Ricky Steamboats, and Ric Flairs of the business pass on and the old traditions are lost forever. God knows most of the current generation of wrestlers doesn't give a crap about the old days.
Ah well, I still have my old WWF/WCW/ECW tapes to get me by!
Matt
Yes, exactly right. It is just like one big soap opera nowadays. I don't follow the storylines or watch wrestling much anymore but the acting is terrible, wrestlers should stick with what they do best...wrestling in the ring. Many neo wrestlers don't even pay homage or acknowledgement to the early wrestlers in the business. Rick flair and Hogan are the few first generation WWF wrestlers that are still active. Those were the days...
I guess that I am a die-hard pro wrestling fan in that no matter what the quality of the product in the future I will still watch Raw and Smackdown every week and a few select PPVs every year.
For me the 'glory days' of wrestling were also in the past, although between 97-2001. Being in Australia meant that i could watch both Raw and Nitro. Simply put, I was a big fan of WCW and sorry to see it go.
Yet I still find enjoyment today in watching professional wrestling and probably always will.
Jean, while I do prefer it when more emphasis is placed on the pro wrestling side of things, it is still neccesary to have a balance between that and the 'sports entertainment' aspect.
Yet that said, you would probably enjoy NWA:TNA very much. I know I do.
You should get their PPV on foxtel in May. Even if it is just to show support for it.
We had TNA for about 6 months in 2003 and I've gotten a few dvds from the states. It's a great alternative to the WWF/E.
Anyway back to hair...
Long Hair Legends:
- Bret Hart
- The Undertaker *
- Kevin Nash

- The Undertaker (will be great in a year at his current rate)
- Shawn Michaels
- Matt Hardy
- Jeff hardy
- Rino

and finally, some of the guys who I think show respect to the past, and an appreciation for it:
- Chris Benoit
- William Regal
- Batista
- Matt Hardy
- Kurt Angle
- Rey Mysterio Jr.
- Jeff Jarret
- Jerry Lynn
-HHH (a contentious choice perhaps, but he is a big mark for the past e.g. Flair. Also you can see what the title really means to him)
* Lance Storm
"Brother, you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? WOOOO!"
---> The same can be applied to growing your hair!

Right here.
You guys do know it's all fake, right? :-)
Although I do like Triple H and Shawn Michaels and Jericho!
I Was A Big wrestling fan growing up during my school years, one of the 1st desires I Had of having long hair was due to many of my favoriete wrestlers, Then Of course music.
My fave as a Kid was Always the Ultimate Warrior, of WWF, And Sting of WCW, I Personally prefered WCW especially from 97 up untill the Last Show, I Have All the PPVS from 97 till 2000 and a few more of the later ones, Have many of the early 90s, and Late 80s too, I Still watch when I Can, but for me its not the same without my beloved WCW!
I Guess NWA TNA is the closest we'll ever get to WCW Again.
the NWO, The NWO Wolfpac and WCW was defiantly the greatest storylines ever IMO. Anyone remember the Newblood Storylines, that could of been classic if WCW continued!
My Fave wrestler ever is STING especially with the crow look, other faves Inc Kevin Nash, Scott Hall,Scott Steiner,Booker T,Jericho,Hollywood Hogan (Not the red and Yellow hogan!)Bret Hart,DDP, Jeff Jarret,Sid Vicsious,Goldberg.
Favs Now would be, Shawn Michaels,Kurt Angle,Batista,Cactus Jack (Gotta mention the great Mick Foley!) christian,Edge,Jeff Hardy,Kane (Unmasked)HHH, Chris Benoit,William Regal.

WHEN YOUR WITH THE NWO, YOUR WITH THE NWO 4 - LIFE
Just Tooooo Sweeeeet WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
\m/ \m/
Well it seems That there are two huge WCW marks on this board!
I agree that the whole NWO vs crow Sting angle was the best storyline ever.
The wolfpac etc was great too.
And the cruiserwights! Jericho, Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, Ultimo Dragon, Billy Kidman, Psicosis, Juvi. Just fantastic!
And my personal favourite?
Raven and his flock!
His feud with DDP was great. I wish we had NWA:TNA here in oz, so I could have seen their rematches there.
And keep those tapes man, I still have mine.
Re. the New Blood Angle...it could have gone somewhere, although Hogan's feud with Billy Kidman wasn't looking to promising for the future!
Yet Jindrak and O'Haire and other young guys were being pushed hard at the end of WCW, who knows what might have been...
and that last show, where Booker T wins both titles, and Sting beats Flair..it gets me every time :-(
WE ARE TAKING CONTROL.
4, 4, 4, 4, LIFE
WE,WE, WE ARE THE NWO!
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Great To See another Huge WCW fan on the Board, I Really do Miss it, but Least we have the Videos still!
for the 1st couple of years after it ended I Always Hoped it would return, but deep down I Knew it never would.
Before Vince McMahon bought them out, Eric Bischoff and few other guys was looking to buy the Brand, Read an Interview with Bischoff Talking about his Plans and Stuff, was Quite Exciting, Then Next thing I Heard they pulled out, and McMahon got his hands on it! During the Last Show, never Dreamt that, that was actually the end.
Do you ever remember That Luchador Hardcore match, one of the greatest matches, in which everyone of them ended the match with injurys or broken bones (Real Not Storyline) It was Just crazy!
WCW 4 - LIFE
IS SID VICSIOUS STILL ALIVE? SOMEONE TOLD ME HE DID. PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS!
