I have a quick question, unfortunatley...I have been straightening JUST my bangs for the past 10 months, I have done this basically everyday, and a month ago I just started using conditioner...now, when I straighten my hair I sometimes use a protecting spray guard to keep it from frying, I must admit, I love and feel so much better when my bangs are straight! but I have a feeling that it is preventing my bangs from growing...is this theory true?
thanks,
Logan
below is a pic of my hair when it is str8end.
First off, unless you're putting the straightener right to the roots of your hair, it won't "stop" your hair from growing. The straightening process will cause severe damage (proportional to the amount of heat used), which could indirectly lead to slowdowns of sorts in apparent growth (in other words, your hair is always going to grow at the same rate until the whole "slowdown-with-aging" deal kicks in, but straightening your hair might make it frizzier and give it more split ends, which would perhaps make your hair appear shorter in those areas).
I suggest you cut off your bangs and start growing from a clean, non-straightened slate. It's for the best. Straightening can really screw up your hair in the future, so just keep away from it.
hey mate,
don't straighten your hair like that...i did the exact same thing as you a few months ago and started to pay for it really bad.
My hair was in the worst condition, it was dry, frizzy and split-ended: my mum said it looked like "electricity".
Also, it looks as if your bangs are much longer than the rest of your head (a buzz cut?)...my suggestion: cut off your bangs so that it is even with the rest of the hair because your akward stage will look very, very akward with such a hairstyle and you might get something drastic if left to late. Do it now...there's nothing better

Hi Logan,
straightening does not make your hair grow faster, and it can cause a lot of damage. I understand that picture was from February 2006 when you had a buzz cut except for the bangs - so you probably have about an inch of growth on the sides and in the back by now.
I'd NOT cut the bangs, in that respect I politely disagree with the other two who have responded to your post so far - the bangs mean a lot to you, it seems. However, you may be better off not using any chemical straightener, and no excessive heat either. Rather, I'd use a good leave-in conditioner or even some pommade for the bangs, even if that fails to make them absolutely straight.
You seem to have a way to go, so just enjoy every new look that develops as the months go by, and just let your hair do its thing - hair can have a "life" of its own, and it may want to "experiment" all by itself - and probably grow into some really cool styles, again, all by itself. Just let it take up the challenge...
I wish you Peace, and that you feel really good about yourself as you grow it out.
