Hi. I'm 20 years old and I am beginning to grow out my hair for the first time. The longest i have ever had it was about 3" long just barely in my eyes. Right now, I haven't cut my hair in about 10 weeks and it's just reaching my eyebrows and its comin over the ears a little bit. Since I have never done this before, what should I do to keep it looking nice as it gets longer? I'm wearing a lot of hats mostly because I don't know how to style it but I love it now. How long would you expect it to be by the end of the year? 10 months of growth = ??
Pardon me a moment...
Ok, now that that's out of my system...
As of this moment, strike the phrase "looking nice" from your vocabulary. The only way to keep it looking even remotely neat is to have it trimmed every few months, and trimming is the very last thing you want to have done to you hair right now.
I have only four words for anyone starting to grow long hair:
Just... let... it... grow...
The average head of hair takes about five years to reach the waist. In 10 months....? Mmm... rough guess... your's will probably just barely reach your the top of your shoulders.
Welcome to the board!
Well that's good to know. All I really want is my hair to hang about an inch above my shoulders. I don't want it any longer than the very top of my shoulderblades.
It all depends on how youve started the growth from the last hair cut.... it looks nice then wow it gets to a stage where you cant style it but this in my experience is the worst stage but peoples arkuid stages are different, but we all go through it.
Im at 8 months nearly and had an undercut and cut so its all the same length... so my sides lost a couple of inches but at 10 months my hair looks to all be level (including fringe) with the bottom of my nose.... without my sides took off id say the sides would probably be level with my lips or just above lips... hope this helps... touching shoulders may not be how it is in 10 months but it all depends on your hair growth and how long your hair was when you started. Remeber 10 months is still quite a short time in the growth of hair. But keep at it =) and take the dudes advice about not getting trims!

see, right now you *think* you want it just to your shoulder blades, but i bet you once its there, you'll want it longer :) ive only really started viewing my hair as long lately. for the last five or six years ive just seen it as hair ive been trying to grow out. one morning i woke up and it kinda dawned on me. "hey, i did it!" :D
Are you from the future?
why yes, yes i am
...
you are going to die a horrible horrible death :D
sorry to be the one to break it to you *cry*
By then it should be about 5 inches long of hair.
What are general considerations about lenght is that:
-Short is shorter than medium
-Long is longer than medium
-Medium is shoulder-lenght or so
So given even with straight hair it would take about 18 months to have mostly shoulder lenght (not just the neck hairs, but the good majority of them reaching shoulders).
In my own experience awkward style is pretty easy to manage heh. I've been through it all the while at high school, and I hardly got passed it (would get it cut before), so I had a permanent awkward stage sort of. It's manageable.
