Hi, This summer I dyed my hair black, however, it's still there and I regret it. i think i'll cut my hair over the dye line so i can get back to my dark-blond color, after all, i will just lose about a year of growth. Here's some pictures, comments are welcomed.
this is what I will get

this is what I will get
I also dyed my hair black (blue-black to be more accurate (from a dark shade of blonde, or very light brown)) - but I chose to let it grow. It turned out fine, and now the only visible part of it, 3 years later, are the red highlights at the bottom (10~12 inch long) of my 25~30 inches of hair. It wasn't dramatic at all and I chose to not cut it or redye it.
I once dyed my hair black, when my hair was still shoulder length. Rather than cutting my hair to get rid of the dye, I let my hair continue growing. Now there's not a trace of the dye anywhere.
Trust me, you'll feel better, in the long run, if you just grow it out and let your new hair replace the old over time.

hey!
about 6 years ago when i was around 15, i dyed my hair every three months for about a year. the problem was, i dyed it perminant the first time, so after about 4 weeks, really REALLY bad roots started to show.
basically ive spent the last 6 years trying to grow it out!
every year or so id cut about an inch off. finally, after a long time of looking like a skunk, its gone :)
here is a pic of it now without the damn black.(last summer though) what always pissed me off is that if i hadnt of dyed it originally, it would be about six inches longer. oh well!
At least you've got some kickass hair now! It looks cool man!
Why do you want to chop off such amazing length?
How long have you been growing?
I would die for that much length right now.
YOu don't have to chop off the damage from dying, simply stop dying/coloring your hair altogether and in time the damaged hairs will have all shedded out and the new healthy hairs will replace the old ones. DON'T CUT ANYTHING! It doesn't even look that bad from the photo but then again it is a very poor photo and hard to make an evaluation on the level of damage. Good luck.
I've been growing them since summer of 2004, the damage are'nt big, i would only need a 2cm trim. I only dyed them once with non-permanent dye, it's still there and it does'nt look good. That's why I want to cut, I'd better like to lose 1 year of growth than have bad looking hair for 3 or 4 years. I'll think about it for 2 weeks before doing anything to my hair.

Hi Kevin,
Just like some of the others, I'd like to advise against cutting. It's better to try a look for a non-bleaching dye-extractor shampoo and carefully use that on the dyed parts. You could either find some in a large drug store, or you have a reliable hair stylist do this for you (of course, that's more expensive). If that damages your hair, a one-inch trim plus a good conditioner should fix it, and you don't lose a whole year of growth.
By the way, did you post a great picture as "Kevin Cool" on this site two years ago?
Have fun, and happy growth!
Hans-Uwe
Thanks for the advise! I'll try your dye-extractor shampoo.
By the way, I'm not Kevin Cool (two years ago, I had a buzzcut :P)
Ask around and find a good hair colorist at a salon. It might cost a few bucks but they can get your hair back to your natural color or close to it and you won't lose all the length.
Women do it all teh time.
Heck how many celeberties have you seen with changing hair colors? It can work.
Oh and by the way ..don't do it again. :)
I also dyed my hair black, about 4 years ago (gothic period :-) ). Now my hair is about tailbone length, and the black is still there at the ends, but you can hardly see it. In fact, I think I'm the only person who's ever noticed it.
I intend on getting it all out by cutting a few cm's once in a while, without having to lose too much length.
I think that would be a good way for you too. The black will fade bit by bit. I think if you cut it all now, you'll regret losing 'only' a year worth of growth (correct English?).
I personally wouldn't get it coloured back to your natural colour, I think it would have to be bleached for that first, which causes a lot of damage.
You could try neutral henna (cassia obovata), that can bring your own colour back a bit, and it's a great treatment for shine and strength.
