hello ive grown my hair about 1.5 years now, its thick brown wavy hair (sorry no digi cam) so my bangs are at my mouth and back of hair is a bit past neck, ok so my problem is last christmas my sister bought me a hair straightener and told me to use it so my hair will look better and longer, so for about 1 month, i would use it everyday, and now... i noticed that i have split ends, the top of my head has hair growing in really short and sticking up weird, my hair is beginning to seem really frail, im wondering what i need to do? start over? or is there some way i can keep growing, plz someone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it, thank you to all my long hair friends ;)
First thing is to stop straightening your hair.
Some girls straighten their hair everyday, including my sister, and although their hair is damaged from this process you don't need to "cut it all off". A trim of a mere 1/2 inch may all you need to get rid of split ends. Deep condition your hair aswell about once a week.
You shouldn't be concerned with fly-aways, they are natural and everybody has them, just baby hairs that stick out.
Do take good care of your hair , or you will regret it in the long run.
I damaged my hair from using hairspray, so I stopped. It looked a bit crappy for a while but now it's better than ever. So I recommend getting a slight trim and then staying from all styling products, blowdriers, straighteners and so on.
I dont see how hairspray can damage hair, unless you light it on fire as well...
That'd do it! It was called 'Cossack' and made my hair all frizzy and full of flyaways. My bangs in particular started acting very strangely.
Too bad you felt you had to take orders from your sister. Oh well.........to the brighter side:
1.) Get rid of all Split-Ends right away.
2.) Begin using tons of conditioner.
3.) I doubt all is a loss and your hair may very well end up looking great dispite.
4.) Wrap-up that Hair Straightner and save it for next Xmas to give to a "loved-one." LOL
Good luck to you.
Hi Adam,
as the others said already, just stop using the "straightener" and use a good conditioner instead. Also, you may want to try any of those lotions containing not much more than dimethicone / cyclomethicone, e.g. Frizz-Ease or another brand. With that lotion, you may need less trimming.
Keep going, not much is lost, and hope everything goes better from now on. If minor problems still arise, just stick them out.
Happy growth,
Hans-Uwe
