Sorry if these have been asked 100's of times before but I have to ask. Let me start by saying since I was a kid I have wanted long hair, I have tried 3 times already in my life but I have always given up around the same time, around 8-12 months in. The reason why is because my hair is thick and slightly wavy which makes it poof to a phenomenal size and every time I add something to my hair or it gets slightly wet the waves get worse. So my questions are:
1. What can I use to flatten it so it looks good, not greasy or dry or make the waves go crazy, also something that lasts the whole day (doesnt get blown out in the wind)?
2. Is there anyway to make it straight without damaging my hair?
3. What is a good routine for the owner of long hair, how often do you shampoo and what not?
Thank you in advance for reading this and hopefully posting a response you cant imagine how much I want long hair, its been a dream of mine for years. Also I just want to add I only want my hair to be down to my chin with the back trimmed so its not to long, so waiting for it to weigh itself down isnt really an option.
p.s. Feel free to add any advice you feel is good even if it has little to do with the questions.
Hairspray comes to mind. That, or a good styling gel.
That depends on how long your hair is. Chin-length hair is still relatively short, so you could easily get away with washing just a couple times a week.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do with chin-length. It's still short enough to seem to have a mind of its own. I remember when mine was chin-length, the ends liked to curl up and sneak into my mouth. Very annoying. To alleviate that, I frequently tilted my head ever-so-slightly to the left (this was when I was still parting it down the right) so gravity would keep it away from my mouth.
I understand exactly what you want because it was the same for me when I was young. But I had hair in front to my chin for long time, but I kept my hair short back and on the sides.
I parted it on the left side. This way can be ennoying if you don't want to have your bangs falling on your face sometimes. For my part, I loved this thrill and loved tossing it to the side. You can also wet it and comb it straight back. In this way you can grow your bangs very long and keep it down on your head with gel.
For washing, two times a week it's enough.
Tell me what you think about.
I went through the exact same thing when my hair was about that long. I just kept taking care of it and let it grow out, when my hair got long enough just just started to fall down straight(ish). It's still wavy/curly at the moment but it looks pretty good (if I do say so myself) now that it's a lot longer. The weight on the ends makes it straighter higher up, so it doesn't look as huge. :)
No problem and no need to be sorry in the least.
1.) Begin by going above to "Links" and reading the write-up by Bill Choisser. This is really a MUST and will answer much.
2.) In growing-out hair so as to have Long Hair you have to EXPECT all kinds of out-of-control looks. It is the only way to get from point A to point B. Expect the shabby look along the way and try not to dwell on it. Don't look in the mirror all the time to see how things are going.
3.) Consider all about a 2 year project before settled in pretty well. Do not fall for trims and even-ups along the way.
Hope this helps and hope you are at long last able to achieve long hair. The rewards far out-weigh the growing-out process.
Best of luck to you.
