Hey there...
=( I just don't know why am I so paranoid =S
You know that I am always really worried about sheding... today I was washing my hair and, as usual, I noticed a lot of hair sheding out, which I was ok with but oh well... when I got out and started combing my hair, I started pulling even more hairs out... when I was over I called my mom in dispair... she told me that amount of hair was normal, but actually I had sheded some more in the bath... I counted the hairs after combing and there were 40 or so... Well, I am suposed to shed 100 hairs a day right?? Oh well =(
I have some scalp problems you know... it's like dandruf, I have told you about it before... but lately it's becoming really itchy and I just keep on using a shampoo I bought in the pharmacy which is really good, and I have to wash with it for four weeks and then stop untill it apears again. But the itch is really unconfortable and there is a lot of buildup in my scalp =( I sometimes take big balls of white flakes from my scalp, oh how I hate that D= I have read that some of these scalp problems related to dandruff may be related to puberty, do you think so it might be so?
A good thing is that I bought a new brush... It was kind of expensive but me and my sister had been looking for onw for some time now... it is a boar bristle brush... actually it seems more solid than our old brush, that was made of plastic, but it seems to be pulling less or nothing =) Maybe in my next update I'll post some photos of the brushes I have been using on the run...
I just hope this sheding is normal and that nothing can stop me from achieving my goal =S Thank's for reading and for all the suport =)
On top of losing 100 hairs a day, don't forget that there's a chance that you could have missed one or two hairs from the previous day that have been lurking in your hair overnight. That might make it seem like you're losing more hairs than normal.
i know i don't comb my hair everyday so during the weekends i find ALOT of hairs come out that have been left over from earlier in the week lol and of course it freaked me out the first couple of times it happened lol
Yup. I had a semi-bad incident with honey once, and one of my ringlets got kinda, well, stuck together, and it caused a ton of dead hairs to get stuck in it too. To this day I still find little ones I didn't see last time I checked.
I get old hairs from perhaps even weeks ago in my curls, lol. I think my hair really wants to dread...

Hi Joao. (Trying to figure out how to put the tilde over the a in your name.)
The loss of 40, and more likely 50 hairs per day is normal, especially for someone with thick hair. (Some hairs don't get counted.) The shed rate will drop as your hair gets longer.
Because your hair is thick you probably have about 120,000 hairs on your head. The loss of 50 per day is is only 1/2400 of your total hair per day. This equates to a very long growing cycle of about 6.5 years. Even at the above shed rate, a 6.5 year growth cycle and a growth rate of 15cm per year equates out to a length of 97.5 centimeters. As mentioned before, as your hair gets longer, the shed rate will drop. With proper care, hair lengths over 1 meter should be within easy reach for you.
Absalom
I know how you feel. I used to be really paranoid about shedding too. It's perfectly normal, and in fact it is necessary to keep your hair healthy.
Don't worry and keep it growing!
Your message header answered your own question.

Perfectly normal. Only forty hairs, too, huh? I shed constantly unless I tie my hair back. It's like owning a very long haired dog. My friends are constantly pulling hairs off of my clothes. Anyway, my hair is still as thick as always, so no worries, and you shouldn't worry either. As for the dandruff, yeah, that's puberty. That time in our life that adults say we're going to look back on fondly. Bah.
hi michi,
u have a great mane - so long, nice texture and it looks healthy - how many years are u growing for that length ?
is it possible that u come from austria or germany ?
ur nickname is the short version of the german name 'michael' ...
greez & keep ur mane growin,
ALH
Six years, and I suppose I should mention now that I'm a girl, no matter what the picture looks like . . . stupid picture. Anyway. Michi is a Japanese name, it means something like "The Way," or "Righteous Path." I'm using it as short form of Michelle.
Anyway, my brother will attest to the fact that I tell him as often as possible how glad I am that guys are wearing their hair long again(not that I can convince him to give up on crew cuts), and I'm here in praise and celebration of hair on everybody. Down with scissors!
oh, sorry for that - i hope u aren't upset - the pic is so tiny and i was only looking on your beautiful mane :)
yeah - that's a good attitude !
i wish more people could share that attitude ...
ALH
hm don't be worried, i am 'hair-paranoid' too ...
but every time when i think i am losing too much hair, coming to terminal or other kind of that things i try to fight it with simple logic ...
u have about 100.000 hairs on your head ... u lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day ...
then it would take between 3 years and 5.5 years to lose all hairs on your head but u also must calculate that after u lose a hair a new one starts to re-grow immediately ... and after that 3-5.5 years this new hairs are about 36 - 66 cm long .. and this is even the WORST case :)
u also can calulate the loss vs. the average 'hair-life-cycle' - u always come to the result that the even the worst case is a great length :)
so don't be afraid - u also have thick hair, which means it's more robust than normal or fine hair so it's more difficult to damage or lose them (in my op) ... i think your hair is fine !
i sometimes did that when i saw a lot of hair in my comb and i also think that the days where u recognize more hair loss are remembered more easily than the days where u lose less or nearly no hair ... think about it ...
i do that when i think a lose too much hair and i measure my hair in regulary time periods 'cos sometimes i'm thinking i am reaching terminal soon ...
in my op these 'dirty little helpers' are a good thing to fight paranoia or temporarily 'hair-depressions' ...
greez,
ALH
You have nothing to worry about dude! Your hair is super thick plus you're very young.
I'm just curious, what are the genetics like for hair for males in your family? Do you have any male relatives with any hair loss?
Hello Jason, thank's for replying =)
The males on my family differ from my mother and father's side... My father has got hair loss actually, and his hair is really fine and wavy... my mom has got thick hair as I do and her hair is straight. I have the waves of my dad and the shape of my mom and my sister has got the straighness of my mother and the shape of my father... I hope I have the hair genes from my mother's side, my grandfather is 65 and has all the hair in his head and my mom told me she had a grandmother whose hair reached almost the ground... hopefully =I Thank's for replying =)
Thank you guys =)
Maybe I'm just overthinking about my hair sheding... I'm just going to wait and see what happens =) I have talked to some friends of mine at school and they all think that it is pretty normal to shed a lot of hairs... I hope so =P Thank's for the help =)
I still ould like to think what everyone thinks about the boar bristle brush =P Thank's =)
And I thought I was paranoid, I lose about 10 hairs a day.. maybe less... I must be weird O.o
