I'm 19 today. Might go out for some drinks later :)
Anyways, i was shopping before and i found some guy who was selling ceramic hair straighteners very, very cheap at $20 AUD. I know that my sister has the old model with the metal plates and she has been after a new ceramic one. I think the ceramic ones aren't as damaging to hair as the metal plates. So i said "what the heck" and bought her one at that price. She is delighted with it. I was the test dummy for the new hair straightener and the results were excellent. After about 10 mins of fighting the curls my hair looked dead straight, and super long :)
When i went out in the shops i got lots of stares, especially from old people :P
This is a one off thing, i don't plan of making a habit of straightening my hair. Only on rare occasions.
Also, i have dead ends, even my sister pointed that out. My hair is getting pretty tangled and knotted and is hard to comb. If it gets worse i might get a slight trim at the 2 year mark just to keep my hair healthy and manageable. If you would like to see photos click on my avatar. Cheers guys.
Wow it does look alot longer! But I think you look better with the curls ;)
Hope you didn't damage your hair while doing it, and I know what you mean about the trim, I am just past the two year mark and thinking of getting one myself, not sure yet though.
btw this is my first post with my avatar, let's see if it works!
I aint posted here in ages, looks great.
Hi Jean, wow I just checked out your pics with the straightened hair and you sure look different but in a good way.Regardless whether this is a one shot deal with the straightener your hair looks great either way.I guess just be careful not to overdo it with that type of thing with your hair as you don't want to setback your progress should you need to trim your hair due to damage.Oh and Happy Birthday by the way!!!!Its always been a pleasure to read your posts.Mark
Happy Birthday Jean,
Wow what a change, looks good on you too, but hard on the hair I imagine. Fun to surprise people with I bet though. Cool but temporary look :)
LOL, awesome! I especially like the second and third pics - those really look cool. And the length pic makes me realize that your bangs are actually longer than mine. No fair, you can practically make a full ponytail. :P Speaking of which, did you try a straight-hair ponytail?
Like Blueice, I prefer the curls, though. Your pics kinda make me want to straighten my own hair, but I'm way too afraid of the damage to try. I think I have a fair few dead ends in the back of my head; there's just way too much frizz and too many tangles from sleeping, and I just can't sleep properly with a loose ponytail. Oh well.
at least you can make a pony tail. i've got another 6-7 months before i can do it lol
lol, you'll get there in no time, though. I didn't think I could make one for a long time, and then I just tried one day in January and my bangs could (sorta) stay behind my ears. 4 months later, they fit a bit better, but because they're so thick, they don't want to stay, lol. See, thick hair isn't ALL awesomeness.
Where do your bangs reach when you pull them straight? I think mine could stay behind my ears at around mouth/chin-length.
I have to see that famous one-year July update you said you were gonna post. :P
currently they're down to just below my eyebrows when i stretch them. when i began growing i had reaaaaaaaaally short hair lol so when i post my July pic, i'll post the beginning pic too so you can see the comparison
ok, keep it straight, looks very good..
Im about to straighten as well.
what did u you use, did u do it yourself?
Dang 80's, that looks different! It shows your actual length.
I know this is a one-off thing so enjoy it while it lasts.
Happy 19th on the 19th!
- Oren
congratz to ur 19th - may ur headache not too strong the next day :))
i turned 25 on the 8th so i think we are both "april jokes" hehehe ...
ur hair looks good in both ways but in my op u look better with your curls ...
the straight hair shows your length but the curls .... hm can't explain but they look simply better !
btw: is there a tool (the opposite of a straigthening iron) which does the opposite (straight hair -> curly hair) ?
how is this process called ? 'curling' the hair ?
may damage, split ends and terminal never reach u !
greez,
ALH
lol,must be.
It is natural. It gives character, it's who i am. I just enjoy the length of straight hair.
It is called perming, very 80s metal. Using hot rollers on the hair, very damaging.
Now let's hope. I don't mind a terminal of atleast mid back, having healthy hair is what's pivotal for me.
ah thx for the info - sounds not healthy for the hair :)
only wondered to hear so much about straightening and so few about that perming ...
thought about it 'cos i would like only once to feel voluminous hair (my mane was slightly wavy in awkward and is now straight) ...
greez,
ALH
Perming uses a chemical process to permanently curl the hair, and is the opposite of chemical straightening. The actual opposite tool to a straightening iron is a curling iron, and most store have both. Hot rollers work in a similar way to a curling iron, as would using regular rollers with a blow dryer.
I agree you have to be very careful with any of these things due to the potential for damaging your hair. In fact, the chemical processes almost by definition damage your hair, but in what is presumably a desirable way.
hahaa! it's funny to me because it's so different and it looks so good on you. I'm jealous.
I love this look on you, although you do suit your own natural style as it 'is you'.
Yet if its not too damaging (you're the best judge of that) for you, I'd say definitely consider breaking out the 'straight look', every once in a while.
Happy birthday Jean
well i'm going to go against the grain here and say it looks fantastic straight
you can see your true length, and what a thick mane its becoming
I myself have not touched the straightener in a couple of months and my hair is the better for it
Ryan
Thanks alot. Yeah, it really does show it's actual length straightened and my hair is rather thick(which is good). I prefer it curly but it's a good alternative style every now and then.
that looks great 80's, have you tried pulling it back into a ponytail in that state also?
Yes, and it was long and looked good.
No pics sorry.
And happy birthday to you also!
My birthday is 28 May, i'll become 18 then. :)
You are very lucky as both curly and straighter hair look fabulous on you. Long hair is fun to try-out different things with, and I doubt very much that the Iron had hardly any effect...........especially knowing you and the way you manage your hair. Glad you got to see the length when straightened. Magnificent!
Ha ha ha.............that would have been the High Point of my Birthday! :-)
That looks great. I think that hair like yours or mine is a blessing, we can pull off both looks. Happy bday. I was actually your age when I was just starting to grow the first time. Although I wish I had started earlier, it's no longer source of stress.
Looks great! Happy birthday to you!
I like that. It is very tempting to try that myself.
Hope you have a great birthday, and hopefully no headaches tomorrow!
Hair looks wonderful str8 and have a great birthday. I'll be 21 again in July hheheheh!!!

Wow! Thats a lot longer than I thought it was. I've straightened my hair a couple of times, and it must add about 2-3 inches to the length - going to my mid shoulder blades.
I don't much like doing it though, because it takes forever and its gotta be damaging to the hair.
One thing I will say, once a bit of length has grown in, it does straighen a bit from the weight. Plus the natural look is the best look.
I wouldn't worry too much about damaged ends, they'll all fall out eventually anyway, I wouldn't trust anyone to use scissors on me. If you must cut it, do it yourself. keep it growing.
