Hello. First of all, my hair has been growing now for 3 years, and some months. I have had 2 small trims along the way, one trims was at about 8 or so months of growth, and it was rather disasterous. My hair is rather thick, so the woman that was timing my hair took it upon herself to hack away at it with her 'thinning shears' luckily my hair wasnt very long at that point, so it didnt have too drastic an affect on my growing. However, I took some photos of my hair today, including photos from behind, and as you can tell, the last 5 or so inches of hair seem to be really thin when compared to the hair closest to my head. This can be attributed to 'not-so-great' care of my hair when for the first year and a half or so of growing, but also from the thinning shears. Anyhow, i just wanted to get opinions of my hair from others, I am trying to decide weather I should just leave it as is, or possibly trim it some more to make it look a little better. My ultimate goal for my hair is waist length or better.
Your ends are the exact same as mine. I recently just trimmed a few inches as well after close to 4 years of growing without any. When your hair dries from being wet if not brushed does it clumb in crazy waves all of the place? I am attempting to get some more length now that I have trimmed but I don't think my hair type will reach waist before I trimmed it was basically at the small of my back though keep growing.
I have yet to figure-out just why one "thinks" they need trims and having their hair evened-up when they are growing it long. With the exception of "Split-Ends" being targeted, all this trim stuff does is make misery. But it is hard now to know exactly what to do and you've realized the mistakes of "trims."
All I can think of is two routes:
1.) Continue to let your hair grow and see what happens. Start using lots of conditioner.
2.) If a trim IS decided upon, Only let Bruce Gallager on this Hyperboard do it for you. And I mean NOBODY else! I dare say he is the only I am aware of that could really do something with all of this and you would come out ahead 100% for the better.
My best to you in getting help to this solution. It doesn't look all that bad from what I can see of it, but the nice natural look only attained by letting it grow by itself is always the best look of all.
With luck, some other guy on this board might have some better ideas than have I.
My best to you in resolving all of this.
Hi there,
Thanks for the pic update and I'm sure as it grows longer and the thick section gets long and I think it will be less noticable. Looking at it now it looks fine. You got great thick hair there and keep it growing.
Does the alias suggest a liking for Black Metal music, well I had to ask.

Dude, your hair is awesome. Very thick and long. It doesn't look that bad at the ends, perhaps a little thin, but nothing a small trim can't resolve. You aren't far from waist length , maybe another 1.5 years-2 years. Keep it growing.

Heh, thanks for all responces, didnt expect to get many. ANyway, just to clarify, I do not think I 'need' to get my hair trimmed for the purpose of evening it out, my question is basicly will in time everything work itself out, without needing to get it trimmed. I would like to avoid trimming it at all costs. To John.B, yes the name is as it implies, black metal is a favorite genre of mine haha . And to Nige, yes when I wash my hair, and do nothing to it, it tends to dry is some prety intense waves. My hair in the photo is shortly after being washed (with just water) and finger combed. As far as my hair care rouitine goes, I used to wash it everyday with shampoo and conditioner. (for the first year and a half or so of growing) Then I started washing it every other day with shampoo and conditioner. For the past half year or so I have just been washing it with shampoo and conditioner once a week, and every day with just water.
I've icluded another image of my hair from the back, this pic is a bit closer up, to get a better look.
It doesn't look so bad, gets kinda a cool effect. How does it look in a ponytail? If you are uncomfortable with the looks I'd say let it grow for a couple of more month too increase the lenght of the hair closest to your head before you trim the previously thinninged hair.

Pic from the front, please excuse the stupid look in my face haha.
Nice nipple length. Your hair looks fine to mine. If you take good care of it the old, abused hairs(the longest ones) will shed in time and the new, healthy hairs will take over :)
You look like a user called "Ardoth".
But Jean, I can't see his nipples :)
I wouldn't worry about the ends, with time length will take over and the new hairs will look fine. And as for trims, I, just like Justin..don't think trims are a good idea at all, I got one at my 5 month stage and I still regret even getting half inch trimmed.
...btw, I am also a huge fan of Black Metal, one of my favorite music genres.
man it's a great progress for 3 years !!
