Hey there fellows!
Now I know what's behind part of my hair dryness and my hair loss when I wash it... dandruff shampoos!!!! I came to realise this as I've lurked on a science site and it stated that some people fear dandruff shampoos because they think they cause damage, but they said it wasn't true... now I've read here on the forum that it actually causes dryness and damage, which is logical, since dandruff is caused by buildup and the dandruff shampoo is meant to eliminate all this =S Inclueding the precious natural oils needed to soften the hair... I'm so glad I found this out =) And for myself, since I now have the experience and I can say that that shampoo is damaging to my hair, since I clearly notice much hair loss when I use it and also much more dryness on my hair... Oh well... And the shampoo I was using was from a pharmacy, so imagine... it was really being harsh on my hair =( I'm done with it... too bad I only realised it in the end of the bottle =P
Now I've got a question... Since I'm going to quit using dandruff shampoos I will need something else to get rid of my dandruff atacks... what do you recomend? I've heard that vinegar is good to eliminate dandruff and to provide softness and shine to hair. But are all kinds of vinegars proper to use? Could I use a vulgar food vinegar? How to apply it? Would it be supose to mix it in the conditioner or in the shampoo?? Oh well... Just hope someone can help me as dandruff is really uncomfortable and in my case it is even really itchy =S
Thank's for reading, I hope someone can get me some advice =)
You will want to use apple cider vinegar and use it as a rinse after you have washed the shampoo out of your hair and after conditioner. You can dilute it with water if you like. There are many websites that can tell you lots of information about the apple cider vinegar rinse for hair.
The link below is one such place where you can obtain information about the uses of vinegar.

A couple of things I've heard of, but never personally tried, are diluting mouthwash and applying it with a cotton ball to your scalp between sections of hair, or dissolving two aspirin in your shampoo before you use it. The mouth wash sounds sticky, but who knows, it might work. If nothing else it'll kill any gingivitis in your scalp :P
LOL! And what a pearly-white scalp he'll have. :P
prior to the thread I started? your welcome sir. questions are key to learning. Just let your hair take care of it.
Vinegar can help against dandruff if it's caused by build-up. Apple cider vinegar (acv) is most used, but you can also use other kinds like raspberry, wine, etc. (not regular white vinegar though, or so I was told). I just put a bit (let's say a few tablespoons) in a liter of water, and then rinse my hair with it after washing and applying conditioner. You don't have to rinse with water anymore afterwards, but you can, it doesn't really matter. Of course, if the dandruff has a different cause, it won't get rid of it, but it's still good for your hair (as long as you don't use it too much).
This weekend I tried amla oil, and that really helped, no more dandruff. I can't really say if it's a longlasting effect, since I've only washed my hair once since, but so far so good. My hair was also very soft and shiny after using the oil.
Using the CO method for washing also helps for some people.
Hope this helps :-)
try going back to using your Dove moisturizing conditioner. and really massaging your scalp so that your head generates more oils to keep your head moisturized.
