i was just wondering if a semi-permanent hair colour tint could damage the hair much? I want to do it now just to cover my blonde hairs that are growing out from underneath the hair, my hair is now just a mix of light brown and blonde, so i just wanna tone it dark brown.
I think that kind of colour will last for approxmately 8 hair washes.
And i've also heard that semi-permanent hair colour can sometimes be good for the hair, is that true?
The only thing I want to warn you about is the possible red tint that could appear later due to the sun and evenual wash out of a semi-perm color. If you want to change your hair color or even it out my best advice is see a professional. I know due to numerous bad experiences of my own with do it yourself hair kits and none of them are good for your hair. Hope that helped.
Semi-permanent hair color doesn't really improve the health of your hair. It basically stains the hair a different color, that's all. It's less damaging to the hair than permanent dyes which actually lift the scales to deposit the color, though.
I've heard some women with hair damaged from over-processing with ammonia dyes or bleach find their hair looks healthier in a darker color, which stays a lot longer on lighter hair. And I have a friend who dyed her uncolored dark-blond hair fire-engine red with a semi-permanent dye and it's just sort of orange right now. The color faded, but never completely left. It might disguise your lighter sections longer than 8-washes.
A friend of mine died his brown hair pitch black (although black dye seems to make the hair blue-ish). It was a 'semi' permanent dye. His hair was left permanently black. So I wouldn't risk it.
I suppose you could test it on the last inch of a bunch of strands. Or a pet.
