i been growing my hair almost 10 months and i got it trimmed in january cause of splitends now they are back again so looks like time for another trim anyone got any advice about what to do so i dont have to get trims so much
You don't need to get "all" of your hair trimmed. Just have someone target ONLY the hairs with the Split-Ends. 10 months time seems a bit short. Hope you are using Conditioner as most likely this will help alot.
Good luck.
I always wondered how long it will take to target the split ends, and if the hairdresser would do it...
Just leave it alone and it will solve itself.
Also, make sure what you think are split ends, are really split ends. Lots of people think the shorter hairs that stick out are split ends, they are not. They are just younger hairs (haven't been growing as long as the rest)
How do you figure that trims "cause" split ends?
Hair ReligionWhen a hair initially grows out, the end is tapered. This tapered end protects the inside of the shaft from drying out and uncut hairs almost never get split ends.
Cutting the hair removes this taper and exposes the core of the hair shaft. If it's cut properly, with sharp scisors, with a flat 90 degree cut, then the exposure and drying is minimal and you only occasionally end up with split ends.
However, most places don't cut it quite this miticulously and some of the hairs get cut at an angle. This exposes a lot of the core of the hair which dries out and invariably leads to split ends.
If you leave it alone the split will usually break off, curly hair tends to break off sooner than straight.
If are willing to examine each hair and carefully cut it off straight across, you might be able to stop the split. But just cutting all of the hairs will almost always result in many of them cut at angles which leads to more split ends.
If you never cut your hair, then eventually, once it's reached terminal length, almost all of your hairs will have their natural taper intact and won't split.
Besides, most people mistake new growth, sticking out at odd places, as split ends.
I haven't cut any of my hair in three years. I've looked a couple times and I've never found any split hairs.
