So today I was coming home from college and I ended up waiting to cross a road next to a mother with her young son (about 5 or 6 years old). It took a while 'cause of all the traffic on the road and while we waited I heard the son say to the mother "Mummy, that boy needs a hair cut!".
I have no idea why but it just filled me with such a sense of achievement to hear someone talk about my hair to someone else, especially someone so young.
I just wanted to know when you guys really felt like you'd achieved something with your hair, or how long it was before you felt this way?
Interestingly, I heard a conversation between two very young kids standing behind me, possibly first graders.
"Ohhh, what a hair" (not in an impressive-kind of way)
"Lay off him, my bro has a long hair too." (with pride) ;) ;) ;)
Tht was verrry cute and amazing. :)
Good to hear that you've taken the comment as a positive thing rather than negative, as people can get annoyed at the small-mindedness of strangers' comments.
Although he was only a young kid, so I suppose the comment wasn't intended to be malicious, but rather an observation based on what he has learned so far.
It's always fun hearing children, they speak their minds!
The other day a mother came through my register along with her child, the child exclaimed in awe: Look, the man has long hair!
That must have been a positive reaffirmation for you. When others acknowledge your hair in public(be it little kids or old ladies) you know your hair is getting darn long :)
I was overjoyed when it reached my waist, and I am even happier now that it is 17 inches past my waist. Another 2 inches and it should reach the backs of my knees.

It's good to see that you took that comment from a different and positive angle. If i overheard that child say it to me i'd probably think "little runt, shut up!". The fact that you took this comment as a positive reaffirmation that your hair is getting considerably long rather than as an insult shows your intelligence. That is still one virtue i cannot say i have fully developed. Keep it growing dude.
We are raising the consciousness of children so they will grow up unwilling to live in a prescribed straight jacket of conformity.
I jump down peoples throat usually due to the fact its no concern of theres how I have my hair it is my business and no one else.
I told a friend of a friend of the other week who wears a buzzcut as he was on and on about me getting a haircut I just reapplyed I never tell you how to have your hair do I so stop going on about mine and keep you nose out its my choice on how I have it not yours he just got up and left my friend house without a single word ! I guess I can be quick tempered at times

The other day my brother and his girlfriend saw me for the first time in about two months. As soon as they saw me my brother said "Gee I love your hair!", quickly followed by "Yeah it's really nice!" by his girlfriend. This was the first really positive reaction I've had so far.
The only other time someone reacted to my hair was when I was a shorthair (or more of a shorthair anyway). I used to put a lot of product in my hair, as in gel/styling glue. One day, a woman came into the office with her young son. Once I had dealt with her, she started to leave. As they walked away her son said "Mummy, that man's got spiky hair". That really made my day. It cheered me up tremendously at an otherwise stressful time.
