Dang it .... is this what y'all call the awkward stage ?? !!
The hair on the back of my head, just above my collar tend to curl back upwards and sticks out making it look seriously untidy :(
I'm tempted to trim it .... should I ???
if you do you will be in the same exact spot you are in right now only a month or so from now. the only way to get rid of the flip is to just let your hair grow and as it gets longer it will weight itself down. trims are evil unless they are absolutely necessary =)
Are you talking about those hairs on the NECKthat never get longer than a couple of inches or so?
If so, cut them off by all means.
If you are taking about the actual hair on the back of your head though, then don't cut, have patience and it will become tidy in the future.
When I put my hair in a ponytail, and it almost goes to mid-back now, I still have those little 1-icnh neck hairs sticking out around the base of the tail.
They are pretty soft though ;-)
Dean, your hair must grow amazingly fast!
I am hanging to see an update on how your hair is progressing.
For a bit over 2 years growth you have really come far.
I can't wait till my hair is mid-back, still a while though.
I wish I had a digital camera so that I could update more often!
In any case my hair is quite strange in that it can lie wavy and basically be its full length, or it can get really wavy and lose a lot of length. Only after I've showered and my hair is completely straight, does it go to almost mid-back. Otherwise my hair usually sits on my shoulderblades now.
I reckon though that it will be mid-back when dry, in about 5 months or so.
-------'awkward stage'--> Praise G-d it's over with again!
-------base of neck --> Done!
-------shoulders --> Done!
-------shoulderblades --> Where I'm at most of the time baby!
-------mid-back (dry)(Goal 1-perhaps future 'maintaining length?)
-------lower-back (Goal 2-will probably never happen due to my mom probably going bananas! But a goal nonetheless)
Hi Dean,
the only thing that would keep you fromn Goal 2 would be if you don't wnat it. I think it's unlikely that your mother would bother you about goal 2, once she is used to goal 1... And, besides, she got to understand it's your hair, and you're over 18...
Wishing you lots of good feelings of anticipation ;-)

To tell you the truth Hans, I'm kinda scared of the future (hair wise!). In about 3 months I'll be at the smae point as I was the first time I grew out my hair.
I have no idea what to expect after that!
And to be honest, not sure whether I will like it or not.
We'll see, we'll see.
In a word, no.
There are many guys on this board who have a lot of experience with long hair and they'll say the same thing. You just have to wait for it to grow out and not have trims. Trimming will only set you back and not really achieve anything in the long run.
I have sometimes been tempted to have a trim or to otherwise fix what I consider to be a problem. Fortunately I have refrained from trimming and the problems slowly fix themselves.
Patience is the name of the game.

I am having the same problem with my hair(and my hair is straight)...i know it's the awkward stage for me and im planning on not touching it until i get split ends. Thanks to the advice of the boards or else i would have considered trimming as well.
