Hair did not want to behave today. I do not have the length for a full pony tail, but I have been wearing it in a half tail at home. I almost went to work today with the half tail. As it gets longer, I know its tie it up or pour a ton of hair spray on it to make it manageable. Thats going to be a big day for me. And I admit to being very nervous about it.

I can totally empathise with you about your anxiety ,in result of wearing your hair in a ponytail in public for the first time. I remember the very first few times i done it i was very concerned about what others might say or think about it. Now it is just so natural to me and i forget that it is there sometimes. The ponytail style really grew on me(haha, that pun is shocking!) and it feels very natural and comfortable now.
I waited until i had atleast 8 or so inches before tying a ponytail. Sometimes i see guys with a mere 4-6 inches of hair who are obviously growing it long but tie a ponytail when it ain't long enough. It just looks daft because it is so small.
With 18 months of growth you should have plenty of length so that it won't look silly. Good luck.
PS: Don't worry too much, sometimes us humans can get so concerned about worrying what others think when there really isn't an issue to worry about. It's all in out small heads :)
I just went public with my 13 month tail (plus mucho gel). The reaction I got from others was either positive or completely indifferent. I'm 33 and I work in a very conservative white collar office setting. I was all stressed about it, but after 4 weeks of doing this, I don't really even think much about it and no one says anything to me about it. Glad I 'went public' and have no intention of trimming for at least 11 months.
Don't get nervous over it. And it for some reason you don't like the reactions you get, you can always undo the do.
