This is my first post and just wanted to say hello. I think this is one of the best message boards I have ever seen. People here are so much more mature and have great attitudes here compared to most other message boards I have seen on the internet.
I am am currently in the beginning stage of growing my hair out. Right now my hair is about 2 inches long. A few months ago I gave up during the 'awkward stage' and cut my hair short again. It was about 5 inches at that time. Now I really regret it! This time will be different. My goal is shoulder-length hair. I surrently have a short beard and will keep it that way when my hair gets longer. The look I am going for is the photo I posted at the top of this message. Hence my user name 'Faramir'. I will start posting some pics after about 6 months or so.
Also, I found an interesting article about long hair here:

Welcome!
Best of luck reaching your goal. Keep us posted,

Whoa, that's an awesome article. I read the whole thing. Now if only something like that could be put in every single newspaper, just for ONE day... =)
What a good goal for growing your hair out, btw. Shoulder length is a great length to shoot for. And LotR is a great inspiration. =D Don't be surprised if you want to grow it longer after that, though--when I first started, I wanted shoulder length hair (I've actually wanted that my whole life!), but now, I'm shooting for mid-back length hair!
Good luck
Hi and Welcome,
This board is only as good as the moderators that maintain it.
I agree, it is a great board and there is no crap, just good info and discussion of hair. We try to keep it that way :)
Ahh, Faramir...i guess LOTR inspired you to grow your hair in the first place?
That actor, he is actually an Aussie actor and has featured in many great Australian films. Can't seem to remember his name though. He usually has a closly shaven head and a small beard. He grew his nice wavy hair long for the role of "Faramir" in LOTR. Upon seeing that photo i can see he has very short bangs(only around 3-4 inches long max). I can assume he cut them to make his awkward stage easier. His style is a nice, low maintainence style. Are you also planning on keeping your bangs short like this?
On the board it is generally recommend for guys to grow their whole head of hair out naturally, no trims or cuts. However i am quite fond of bangs and if you like them , by all means, go for it. Good luck. Come back for advice and support.
The actor's name is David Wenham. I don't know many of his other movies, only know that he played Father Damien (Pater Damiaan, the famous Flemish priest, who was elected the 'greatest Belgian' here :-) ).
I'm not sure if he really grew out his hair for LotR though, most of the actors wore wigs, I think only Viggo Mortensen really grew out his hair.
To Faramir: welcome! Shoulder length is indeed a good goal, but you wouldn't be the first to decide to go further after that :-)
Great choice for the name btw :-)
And thanks for the article, I loved it! If only more people would agree with it :-)
Well Faramir of Gondor certainly had cool hair in those Lord of the Rings movies, that is a nice hair style and length to look forward to in the future. Good luck with it all, and do come here anytime you need help or encouragement with whatever it is you are facing in the hair department.
Is your hair that reddish color and texture like his was? And, do you think you will have the bangs like he had? If so, you will be able to approximate that style.
Welcome to the board Faramir!
Lord of the Rings was a great inspiration for many to grow out their hair. Funny thing is it doesn't even matter if the hair that inspires you is even real. Sometimes fantasy can produce reality. Wigs can inspire the birth of real longhairs, similar to the way that young people who watched Star Trek on TV grew up to be real scientists and doctors. Never underestimate the power of TV and movies!
Faramir is a cool and cool looking character and I enjoyed the movies' portrayal of him. I must admit to a LOTR longhair inspiration myself. Even though many of the characters have longish hair, and I am sure I must have been playing with the idea of growing out. I distinctly remember a scene in the ROTK DVD where one of the elves in Arwen's procession ( an unknown very longhaired male with dark hair) calls out to Arwen after she runs back to Rivendell. He had such nice hair , even if only a wig, that I said right then, I'm going to do this, I want hair like that!
A little LotR-fan trivial fact :-) That guy was called 'figwit' by many (female) fans after FotR, and websites for him started all over the web, so they gave him a small speaking part in RotK. 'Figwit' stands for 'Frodo is great, who is that'.
Funny stuff Elentari!
You never know what's out there on the web!
Just a few days ago I finally watched the commentary of Peter Jackson's on ROTK and saw the scene I described but didn't understand that this character was anything more than an extra. Maybe if I get hair like that I'll get sites too :)
Hey, thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I would post a pic of myself, but I wanna wait a little bit until my hair gets longer. I'm 34 years old and my hair color is a medium blonde, but I have never had it as long as shoulder-length. I am hoping I can get the same look as Faramir in LOTR. My hair does get somewhat curly when it gets longer, so I'm not sure what the final results will be. But yes, the LOTR trilogy was a major inspiration for me to grow my hair long and also to grow a beard. Funny how movies can influence us sometimes.
