Hi,
I went to a computer meeting/BBQ last night at a friend's place. Shortly after I arrived a few others came, and one of them was a longhair. He's about 16 years old. I said to him it looked like he'd been growing about 9 or 10 months to which he agreed.
We had a bit of a chat along the lines of our hair and it was pretty cool. You know what my hair is like. Well, his is very similar only about two inches longer or so. Looked fantastic. Same colour as mine, same hair type and everything. Was great to see. Only thing is, looking at his hair made me feel like I have so much further to go, as though my hair was not nearly as long as I thought. Oh well :)

Its always fun to find others who are growing out just by chance. Everybody I see seems to be already there though. Cool you found someone just starting out too. Your hair is coming along great, always gonna be people ahead of you but now there are people on the board who are behind too. Its a continual process, now you get to dispense advice to others too :)
Just this morning I saw a gentlemen walk into the store. I thought to myself..."Cool, another guy with long hair"...It gives you this..."I'm not alone in my appreciation of having long hair"...
A lot of the longhairs I ran into cut theirs within a month of meeting... I do talk of hair but it seems to many of them, they will cut it if companies demand it or something. So I guess not too many is longhair at heart. I even heard some people grow their hair because they cant afford or dont have time for a haircut.
I have my reservations calling someone that has been growing for only 9 months a "long hair". I don't know how long his hair is but i call them "future long hairs" :) I am one myself, lol, atleast for 6 more months :)
That is great that you got to meet someone who is growing their hair long and talk with him. Usually i don't talk about other guys long hair in public because i'm usually worried about a hostile reaction or misinterpretation of a simple compliment. If i know them i would but a stranger, no.
Oh well, longish anyhow. Certainly his hair is a bit longer than mine. Maybe I should have said a "soon-to-be longhair"
I think it depends on the situation. If you read the person as being friendly enough that they might be receptive to talking about it, then go for it. If he was a big, tough guy with an attitude I would probably not have mentioned it. I pick and choose who I bring up the subject with, and he was one of the few longish haired guys I've come across who I felt comfortable chatting about hair with.

I wish I could have the experience of running into longhairs my age, but the ones in my school that are growing theirs out are ones that I play in a band with, so it works out anyway :)
