What's up guys? I've been visiting this place regularly for a few months for continuing inspiration in growing my hair long and I finally decided to make a post. I'm 16, and I've had the urge to grow my hair since about two years ago. For most of my life, I've had very short hair (most of the time buzzed) or I would grow maybe an inch of bangs and spike them up with gel. Finally, I decided I was pretty tired of what I considered a "boring" short hairstyle and decided to grow it out, much to my parents' dismay. When I was 14, I started letting it get shaggy. My hair is very wavy with some slight curls here or there and is also VERY thick. I'm sure it's not as thick as I might think, considering the curly-haired people I've seen on here, but I consider it quite voluminous. Anyway, because of its thickness, it basically gained volume for the first few months I was growing it and didn't show much length. Then it was creeping down along my ears and the bangs were starting to touch my eyebrows and beyond... then the inevitable giving in to my mother's demands and getting a trim. The bangs were getting long and it was really gaining length but I ended up letting my mom cut off two inches in spring break of 2004.
Over the summer I was growing it again, and my mom was becoming more lenient but one thing she kept insisting on was keeping my bangs trimmed so they were just touching my eyebrows and not in my eyes. Her problem is not being able to see my eyes. I was mainly letting the back grow and starting to discover that my hair has crazy flipping action going on. The flips were stubborn to the point of being almost completely unmanageable. While getting out tangles and such as my hair was drying, the hair in the back would flip directly upwards to where it almost looked like I did it deliberately with a curling iron! In the fall of 04 during my freshman year, it was getting long again but I kept giving in to fringe cuts and the occasional trim on the back. Basically, my mother has the mentality that all the minor natural annoyances of my hair can be fixed by cutting it. Of course, she doesn't realize it only puts me back at the beginning of the awkward stage. I got one last major haircut in July 2005 (which turned out badly) and a slight half-inch trim of the back later in October. Up till now, I've been growing it out a lot and it's now about 10 inches long, and I'm glad to see it falling on my collarbone now. My parents have finally given up in bothering me about it. The back is now past my neck, and the bangs are just about ready to reach past my chin. I don't take many progress pictures but here are a couple: (sorry about long url's)
http://myspace-836.vo.llnwd.net/00710/63/84/710824836_l.jpg - July 2005 - This was after my bad haircut. The bangs had been reaching into my eyes, and the girl at the hair-cutting place specifically disobeyed my instructions and cut off about an inch of bangs rather than a half-inch like I asked. This was also short in the back and she cut it unevenly, though you can't tell from the photo. Not one of my better cuts
http://myspace-933.vo.llnwd.net/00231/33/91/231721933_l.jpg - September 2005 - The bangs are finally growing back! I feel strange posting this photo considering I'm a metalhead and like to let my hair go messy and untamed, and most of you guys seem to keep yours very tidy :)
http://myspace-579.vo.llnwd.net/00565/97/59/565959579_l.jpg - March 2006 - This is my most recent photo. Excuse the weird expression, I'm not a person for smiling in my pictures so I typically give a weird look instead. Take this picture and add on about an inch to the bangs and an inch in the back and you'll have an idea of how long it is now
Well thanks for your time! I'm hoping to continue using this site for more inspiration, because right now, there is a lot of pressure at my high school to get my hair cut. I'm seeing mostly adults here, so you guys must have much more freedom. Lately, I've been dealing with some annoying comments from upperclassmen and a lot of pressure from my parents. Though my hair isn't even shoulder-length, I live in a rural Midwest town, and me and about three other guys with hair close to my length have the longest hair on teenage males in the area. As you can probably guess, we're dealing with a lot right now trying to let our hair grow and working our way through the difficult days and trying to get people to accept it. This site has helped me a lot personally

AWESOME transformation!
Keep it growing! :)
Well, your hair sure does look nice. I sure wouldn't want to cut it. Good luck with everything at your school. Wow, that seems to be common!
You and the other two guys will have to stick together.
Just keep on keeping on!
