my hair has changed so much over the years. When I was a baby, I had red, super curly hair, which was strange enough given my Italian heritage. Then growing up, through elementary school when I had short hair, I had light brown straight hair. Now through high school-now I have jet black, wavy hair like an Italian should. Anyone else have their hair change like that?
I've never heard of that drastic of changes, but my sister and I inherited our mom's wavy, unruly hair and now that she's older it's become naturally straight
When I was little up until about 7 or 8 years old, my hair was very light blond, almost white, then it started getting darker to it's present dark brown color. Now it is turning slowly back to white, strand by strand...
I must admit that though I do have some Irish in me, so that might account for my bright red hair as a baby. My mom actually kept some hair from my first few haircuts, and my hair went from super curly strawberry red to a little more brown and sttaight every time, then it stayed dark brown, and within the past 5 years it turned black.
Nice to meet you Tony, I'm also Italian and Irish, my dad has straight dark blonde hair. My mom's 100% Italian and I have really thick curly dark brown hair. Strangely enough my hair is very similar to yours because I also have hair saved from my first haircuts and it is very light brown and only curly on the tips.
My hair has gone through various stages varying always from brown wavy to dark brown curly. It was very straight until middle school when it started to curl at the beginning of high school.
As I grow my hair it does lighten I've seen and some days its very curly while others it isnt as much especially the bangs. There is a correlation between color and the curvature of my hair as the curlier it gets the less shine and darker it appears.
BTW I urge you not to straighten your hair as it causes considerable damage with long term use. Occassionally it may not cause any dryness but be warned that it is an addictive behavior and its better to not start in the first place.
Also I know a lot more about my mom's family because my dad was adopted but the agency apparently paired him with an Irish family as was policy I suppose.
Do you know where your family is from? Mine is from Calabria and Roma where most of family still live in Italy aside from some places in New York and Massachusetts.
Hey Tirion, I don't try to straighten my hair unless trying to keep it in place with spray or gel. My family comes from L'Aquila, which is very near to Rome. My greatgrandfather immigrated legally to NYC after WWI, and got a job as a coal miner until he moved to Illinois.
Have you ever visted Italy or Ireland? I would love to do so but the opportunity has not appeared. Currently I live in Florida and have not ventured outside the US.
How long have you grown your hair and how long is it? Mine has been growing since July 05 and its over my shoulder when wet and almost reaches my clavicle when dry and curly. But I have layers still from my last haircut and my bangs are much shorter barely reaching my mouth let alone my chin. So my bangs are still in the awkward stage unfortunatley.
Best of luck growing your hair!
I was born in Germany (my dad was in the military and we were stationed there), and we took a family trip to Italy when I was around two, but I don't remember much of it at all. In about a year, me and some buddies are going to take a trip to the UK, and Ireland is on our list of stops. I've been growing my hair for 7 months, and its a little past my ears now. I had my bangs trimmed, and the dead ends cut off so I could keep it the same length and not have hair in my eyes and have my hair look so frizzy. Now it lays flatter and is easier to style, and reaffrimed my commitment to grow my hair long.
I used to have lightbrown hair as a kid. It was actually quite curly back then, but then I had a period where it grew like a fro, and now it's regularly curly again...
The red in my hair is showing more now, but I guess that's because of more exposure to sun.
It has to do with changes in regulation of gene expression over the course of one's lifetime.
I was born with stiff, jet-black, straight hair like my mom's, which I had until puberty, when my hair started to turn light and wavy. Now my hair is brown, curly and kinky, with a lot of blondish highlights, just like my dad. He could grow an afro in college, just like me. ;)
I used to have blonde hair when i was a baby but now it's like dark bronze(red, goldish brown) which looks almost dark brown. But my hair structure did not change at all.
