Well ive been bald (well 0 clip on the razors) for the last 14 years (currently 18), and well according to the 9 hair studios ive questioned, all 9 have commented saying that my hair is RIDICULOUSLY thick. but none have been able to offer the support ive needed so here it goes:
My hair has been bald and thick (little tiny prickly hair haha), and im hoping to grow it to almost shoulder length. Its been about 3 months of growing now, and the result is, just shorter than an inch of growth. But to be honest, im having concerns whether it will grow due to the insane thickness. and due to my lack of hair knowledge i have no clue of the methods of growing hair, and if i require any products, any support will be so great
thank you
Don't worry there are a lot of longhairs with thick hair(including me). I am about on my 9-10th month of growth(i think) and as i've grown my hair i have noticed that the longer it gets the thinner it seems because of the gravity pulling down on it. When your hair grows to a certain length the thickness will look like nothing compared to when your hair is short...almost like a tree...if you look at a very tall tree compared to a very short one, you'll think the short one is much thicker due to the width, but when you get closer you will realise that the tall tree is perhaps 3 times as thick. Your hair is the same as well, you can't lose anything by growing it, just try it. Also...i think(not sure) that thick hair is also very good for length and has a less chance of breakage.
I'll leave the experts to do the rest of the answering.

Ah, I know exactly what you're going through!
For about 7 years (age 8-15), I got a 1/4 or 1/2 inch buzzcut every few months. I was never really happy with it, but it looked alright. And I've always known I had thick hair. My barbers buzzcutter used to jam and stop because my hair was so thick!
Don't worry, your hair will grow out. It might take a while, but it will. Thickness has no effect on it. Your hair might look puffy or poofy if it gets dry, so avoid blowdrying and straightening. Buy lots of gel and hairspray. You may need it. Anpother big piece of advice - just leave your hair alone, as much as possible, for the next 2 years or so. You might think your hair looks like crap, but messing with it will only make it worse in the end. And, it probably doesn't look as bad as you think.
Finally, the best advice, read some of the links from the board.

These links all have great advice for growing and maintaining long hair, as well as "awkward stage" tips.
Good luck!
