Hey guys...
I just need to express how tired I am of my scalp problems... this isn't dandruff, I don't know... But it itches like hell, sometimes it hurts! Today I got out of the shower after washing my hair and with the conditoner on, took it after 10 minutes and when I checked out my scalp I saw that it was still dirty, messy, and I freakd out! I went back to the bath tub and rubbed rubbed and rubbed and it didn't improoved much... I had to ask my mom to help me and she told me that I can't take it all off in the first time, because she really thinks I don't know how to wash my hair properly (and I am not sure I know anymore)... I haven't been noticing any good progress on my hair and my ends are really dry... I won't cut it but I'm seriously thinking of a trim, tough I don't trust anybody to do this... I'm so sad about my hair... Really... It falls out like a freak and the ends are so dry, and I've got this thing on my scalp (it's yellow, it grabs to the scalp... my mom says it's "seborreia" and that I've got it from my father)... I even have wounds on my scalp because of this crazy thing... I'm dispaired about this... I don't think I'm giving a damn for how my hair's looking now, I only want it to be long enough to put it in a braid, because I will use it like that everyday when it gets to the proper length... I've read in the long hair comunity forum that a lot of members noticed hair growth improovement when they trim their hairs, and I find this so strange but I get the urge to trim to check it out... I was so happy this morning, I had been experimenting some styles of the mirror and my braid is coming along so beautyfully, but I can't take my scalp problems anymore... I do know that even if I cutted my hair I would still have this same problem but I prefer to have a long hair that is damaged, dry and totally unhealthy than having a short hair that is really healthy but that I don't identify with... Still then, I'm realy angry with myself because I'm realising that I don't know how to treat my hair, and I tought I knew... Ironically, my mom is really harsh when I ask her for help but the result (after the hard time combing and with the blow drier, which my mom really thinks is healthy) the results are really nice, my hair feels soft, it doesn't tangle I moves really beautyfully, with a lot of volume from the roots to the ends...
What do I do?? I'm geting dispaired in here...
I might suggest a trip to the dermatologist. You may have something going on that needs an antibiotic, or some different treatment. There is a very good chance that you can cure your scalp problems without affecting your hair in a negative manner, and you may even improve the health of your hair by doing so.
Joao David, I am sure you are doing OK with your hair care routine. Your hair is probably not as damaged as what you think. I think from what you have said that it might be beneficial for you to visit a dermatologist to see if your scalp problem is something more than just a case of dandruff. It is possible that it is something very simple that could be solved.
And too, your scalp has no idea how long your hair is, it is highly improbable that this could be the source of your scalp problem.
Good Luck with all this! Bragi
This can be treated easily and has NOTHING to do with the length of your hair so throw those scissors (worse clippers)away!
Go to your local pharmacist/chemist and get an anti dandruff shampoo such as Lenium (he can recommend a decent one) and use that. This will work so don't despair - it should not cost a fortune either.
Dude, slow down for a minute here ok?
Maybe you have this problem because you are to obsessed with your hair condition. Your sending a signal to yourself that is making your scalp go nuts. If you cool down your skin will do as well.
Your skin tells us many things about our inner self. So you should try to uderstand this message, and then change your situation.
I came accross this site about how water reflects it's surroundings.
http://www.life-enthusiast.com/twilight/research_emoto.htm
Emotions, Music, praying, and even words on a lable can influence the crystalline structures of water.
Positive thoughts, love, gratitude. Make crystal shapes which are coherent which will develop health and happyness.
Negative thoughts, hate, despair etc. Make crystal shapes incoherent which will develop destruction and sickness.
Try to understand how everything influences everything.
Then you can heal yourself.
I hope this helps you in some way.
First calm down. Stress can couse all sorts of problems including seboria. Get a good medicated shampoo, dandruff ahampoo or tar shampoo at any pharmacy. When you shampoo concentrate on your scalp using the tips of your fingers and nails to massage your scalp. Use a good conditioner because medicated shampoos can be harsh. Go to a dermatologist or check with your doctor, there are medications that can help. Don't expect results overnight. BE PATIENT
...and by all means, go to a professional, such as a dermatologist and follow the advise given (other than cut it your hair). Seems to me that a few others on this board have had similar experiences.....perhaps they will chime-in with their treatments and outcome.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Hi João David
I have had that problem occasionally, and it seemed to be due to a buildup of conditioner or sebum from my scalp, so that a good wash helped.
I also found hair lotions that contain alcohol (isopropyl alcohol is o.k.) helpful, even though they hurt your scalp the first moment after you put them onto your head. If you use pure isopropyl alcohol (alcohol isopropílico), make sure it has been diluted with water (70% alcohol plus 30% water). After applying that, you probably need a conditioner, because alcohol makes your hair dry.
However, if anti-dandruff shampoo does the trick, that's all the better.
A warning for your mother: The problem usually gets worse with short hair - do not even think of cutting.
Just before I close: Swimming in salt water should be helpful, too - how far away do you live from the Atlantic? Make sure you put your head under water ;-)
There is no need for dispair, it'll not go on forever.
Best wishes,
Hans-Uwe
P.S. Perhaps Bruce Gallagher has another good idea?
Try using a shampoo with at least 5% Sulfur in it once or twice a week. Sulfur really does a great job of clearing up scalp problems. Smells odd, but it's worth it. Meted is an example.
..you need to clear up this 'mess'--probably with a prescription--before you do yourself some real damage.
Get to the source of your problem and your scalp will heal and get back to normal.
Don't let this go . ..
Scalp problems are skin problems, not hair problems. I tend to get itchy dandruff, but not seborrhea. I used to use anti-dandruff shampoos, but I recently stopped.
I generally wash my hair every four days. Most of the time, I dilute cider vinegar in a flask (a ratio of about 1:6) and bring it into the shower. I wet my hair, then pour this solution onto my head, making sure the whole scalp is covered. I massage it a little. I leave this on for a few minutes and then wash and condition as normal. It works a treat!
In the beginning, if I got an outbreak, I'd make a stronger soultion in the sink, and just rub it into my scalp, without rinsing or washing or anything. All this works with normal vinegar, but cider vinegar smells better.
But I don't know about seborrhea..
I used to have this same exact problem while I was growing my hair. I went to a doctor and he explained to me it was a skin condition called Seborrheic Dermatitis, not as serious as it sounds. He gave me a shampoo called Nizoral (spelling?) and after a few weeks the condition was gone. It can be related to many things such as change in diet, stress, etc... I know how terrible it felt though, itching my scalp all day at work and having oily yellow flakes in my finger nails was not very appealing. Go see a dermatologist and you will have positive results im sure. Best of luck to you.
