Did you all happen to catch the makeover show they have on TLC today? This gentlemen apparently had someone talk him into coming on this show. The moderator of the show went out to the streets, showed a pic of the guy and basically everyone was saying...Hippie looking clothes and glasses, an outdated look....When I heard outdated I was thinking..."Give me a break, does everyone on the planet have to have short hair and the latest flavor of the month look?" Jeez.... You guessed it, he was wearing a suit and tie and short hair by the end of the show, he sold his soul to conformity...
Hi,
that's crazy, someone allowing himself to be picked up from the street for a show and then allowing himself into that kind of masochistic "makeover" - just to go along with the show... The show sounds either like a complete fake (yes, they would do that), or this guy wakes up in horror about what he's allowed to be done to him... How many people did they have to ask until someone went along?
We really need to foster the healthy habit of saying NO to whatever destructive requests are being pushed on us - in PUBLIC, if it need be...
By the way, I don't have access to those shows, and I wouldn't spend time for that kind of thing. Dropping a comment on the MLHH is a much more satisfying pastime... :-)

Hello Everyone,
This is sick: This reminds me of the Movie by François Truffault, "Fahrenheit 451", based on the novel by the same title by Ray Bradbury.
This is about a society where people have wide-screen TV's in their homes, and watch trash TV, and books are burned because they do not change with the times, like TV.
There is a scene in this 1966 movie, where a young man with longish hair (more like an emo cut or Beatles Mop Top), being stopped by police and taken to the barbershop. A lady with a cheerful voice comments: "This young man was arrested for trying to boycott the barbershops, (As he gets trimmed), this shows that law enforcement can be fun!"
When I saw that scene, on TV in 1975, that gave me the creeps, and I see that TV is becoming like what is represented in Fahrenheit 451 - look at Fear Factor, Extreme Makeover, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, .... nothing like the seventies when you did not need cable to watch great programming.
I will recommend the DVD "Fahrenheit 451" to anyone who likes old SciFi... the effects were not to par with today... but it is the story that matters.
Have a nice day,
Georges in Montreal.
Something about the word "Outdated" that seemed to irritate me. On the other hand I stood up for myself in my mind while watching it and saying..."I'm not outdated, I'm a true individual!!"
What sucks, is that life is like a game of Simon Says.
1970 Simon Says wear your hair long
1976 Simon says disco
1977 grunge
1981 Simon says New Wave
1990 Simon says Grunge.
1992 beatnik
Remember that game you probably played in grade one or two... ?
If we simply stopped playing simon says, life would be much better.
Long hair is not outdated and never will be.
Say no to makeover shows right now .
Have a nice day,
Georges
Remembering on a 1970's Candid Camera show:
The crew was on an elevator, all were professionally dressed;
the doors of the elevator opened and a man stepped on the elevator. The doors closed. As the elevator started going up, the members of the Candid Camera crew turned around and faced the back of the elevator car. The man who stepped on noticed everybody facing the back of the elevator car, so HE DID IT TOO!!!! Talk about the game "Simon says", this is a good example. Why do people think they need to conform to what everybody else is doing? I don't.
That book was actually required reading at the high school I went to. I didnt like reading novels cause I hated reading 2 inch thick books, but this was the first novel that caught my attention. I like could not put it down for whatever reason and finished it well before everyone in the class did. I did a project on it and it consists of building a model house with basswood sticks, then after its graded and all I destroyed it by dropping a 1 kg calibration weight on it... a little demolition derby seems fun....
I havent watched the movie but I will try...
Well, at least, there is one thing that I like about 451; widescreen TV.
Finally, a better and less distracting way to enjoy a movie on video that premiered on a widescreen format.
Other than that... - Reinhart
Long hair 'outdated'? It's natural. Are beards outdated too?
The unfortunate aspect of our society is that individuality is not in style.
"To be somebody, you've got to be like everybody."
1. An oxymoron that defies logic.
2. A term that people with independent thought adamantly refuses to accept.
You are correct and very wise!
