O.K. I'm at it again trying to grow my hair out again. Short of a mullet how do you grow your hair long without the sides puffing out? It's at the lenght of Patrick Dempsey off "Grey's Anatomy." I'd like to continue to grow it long so I guess my only choice is to comb it back behind my ears or cut it short around the ears and leave the back alone. Maybe even a slight tapper up the sides or a 1" undercut all the way around so I can continue to grow the length on top. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The sides puff out, it's part of the awkward stage. Best thing to do is to bear it, not cut it, and it will tame itself sooner.
The sad truth is that you just gotta grow it all out. It'll be puffy a while, but after a few months/one year, that should go away. Just stick with growing it out and you'll be glad in the end.
Undercutting is another option, but it's hard to maintain, and you might regret it later on, particularly when you try to tie ponytails and the short part shows. But whatever floats your boat.
