I've been growing my hair for roughly 1.5 years and it's pony-tail length now. It's thick and wavy and I used to shampoo/condition it everyday but lately I've decided to go every other day.
I didn't pay much attention to it in the past but now it seems that I am shedding a lot of hair when I brush or shampoo. I get a few strands every time I run my fingers thru it. I keep it tied mostly all day, could that be damaging it?
Never had long hair before so I'm not sure whether this sort of thing is expected. Any advice?
Your're in pretty much the same position I'm in. I've started to notice more hair loss recently and found that the only thing to do is to comb it extremely gently and not be too vigorous on your scalp when washing.
But I could do with some advice.
I have heard that longer hair causes an increase in hair loss, but i'm a bit dubious about it. What I think is happening to you is not that you are losing more hairs, just noticing it more. We lose on average up to 100 hairs a day, and it stands to reason that you're more likely to notice a 20in hair falling out than a 2in one, and it looks like more hair on your brush/comb.
