Everytime I've looked back at an old hairstyle of someone famous I used for inspiration to help me grow my hair out, it's always looked a LOT shorter than I remember it to.
Does anyone else notice this? Do we initially aim for perhaps 'shorter-length' styles as a basis to work towards, (which, when viewed by someone with very short hair, look long) but when we reach this target, (sometimes without realising) then carry on growing regardless, seeing how easy it is to?
I've looked back at numerous hairstyles I used to use as inspiration (i.e. Tom Cruise in M:I2 and various others) and in hindsight, I realised it took me a lot less time than I thought it would to achieve these lengths.
It's amazing really, just how quickly hair does actually grow, when you set your mind to doing it, and don't cave in.
Luke.
That's true. I find that my growth rate for my hair increases by loads in the summer and getting to my next target of shoulder length won't seem like very long at all.
Do you find that you're hair grows any quicker in the summer months as opposed to the winter time Luke?
Oh, yeah. Definitely. I remember when Interview With the Vampire came out in 1994, I thought Antonio Banderas' hair looked gorgious. I remember thinking, "God, his hair is so long... so beautiful..." I saw it the other night on cable and kept thinking, "Odd... his hair doesn't look quite as long as I remember..."
I understand exactly what you're talking about. When my hair was getting shaggy, I always did image searches for long-haired guys I could base my inspiration on.
Of course, I always wanted my hair to be thin and straight down to my mid-back like certain photos I found, but I found out as it grew that it's wavy, thick, and unruly. I decided to have my hair like Jim Morrison's -- http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/images/matri/Jim%20Morrison.jpg
Looking back on that picture now, it doesn't look as long to me. My hair type is more like that of snowboarder Shaun White's and about the same length as how he wears it now -- http://www.shaunwhitefan.net/ib77.html
I think it looks good on him, but I couldn't let it go that messy. My personality is very orderly so I'd be combing it constantly
