Although my girlfriend regularly braids my hair, this weekend she said that she wanted to try something different and convinced me to let her put it in a bun. She took a few goes to get it how she wanted it, and so I stopped paying attention to what she was doing, but eventually she said it looked good and so we went out. It was OK and I got no real looks or remarks except while in a resturant when the waitress complimented me on the neatness of my hair and said that she had wondered before how people got such neat buns but now she knew that one way was to use a hairnet. I had no idea that my girlfriend had used a net (she called it a bun net which was really fine and this is why I had not noticed before) and smiled sheepishly, but inside I was really embarassed. My girlfriend thinks its no big deal though. Have any guys here used such nets before and have you got any comments from other people.
Dont be concerned -- iregularly wear my hair in a bun and keep it tidy with a bun net
My girlfriend started me on this course when i went horse riding and she said i was the most untidy rider in the competition
One Saturday before the competition she produced a hair net--- she brushed my hair and then put it in a net and then put on my riding helmet-- i was one of the neatest riders but i did feel self concious because it was very obvios i was wearing a hairnet
My girlfriend insisted that i continue to wear a hairnet in competition -- last week i won the best presented male rider--that was hair done up in a bun complete with quite a heavy bun net
On several occasions when we have gone out i have worn my hair in a bun and my girlfriend has put on a very fine bun net ---infact we have gone out together with identical hairstyles--both with buns and bun nets
I have been putting my hair up myself recently and wear it in a bun most days and generally wear a fine net I now dont really think about it during the day and dont really care if someone sees i am wering a bun net
PETER- how long is your hair? I want to try a bunand hairnet.
how old are u?
SEAN --I am in my mid 20s and have hair nearly to my shoulders---- I am sure you will enjoy trying a bun --can you get some help for the first few times --maybe your mother girlfriend or sister
the second or third time they help you suggest that it would look tidier with a bun net and have one readyfor them to slip over your bun
Then just be confident --you will eventually forget you have your hair in a bun
Once you are confident it is fun seeing peoples reaction
Imet my mother for lunch with my hair in a bun --she made me turn around so she could see and exclaimed that i was wearing a hair net too
In the end she was most suportive and has told my sisters and has invited me to a family lunch next Saturday but she said Imust wear my hair in a bun and wear the heavier bun net that I use for horse riding
Let me know how you get on with your bun and hairnet

PETER: do u have a pic? i ll send u a pic of me and your girlfriend can tell if it will work on me!!!
John...interesting to find your girlfriend is that keen to see your hair looks neat. Do not worry about a bun net: my wife often does my hair into a chignon (French Bun) over a shape (like a donut) and nets it after pinning the hair into place. This style of bun is worn low on the neckline. For formal evening wear, she sometimes adds a black scrunchie over the style which makes it even neater but as well, very stylish!
What position did your girlfriend place your bun...was it high on the head, as in an upswept do or neckline like mine? Any pics???
Hi AJ,
I just wonder if you could help me out here and give me a step by step guide as to how to do a chignon - I have seen pics of this style before but never figured out how to re-create it.
Thanks,
Cath

The hair does not need to be curled but a little curl on the ends is a plus!!! It is essential to have a chignon pad (sometimes called a bun pad) but it is really a French word and you should be able to pick one up from a professional hairdesser supply. It looks just like a do-nut made out of padding - they are available in various colours. Brush all the hair together and into (say) your left hand as if you were going to plait or braid. Pass ALL of the length of hair through the hole in the pad (you might like to put a band on the hair at the base of the bunch to control it, my wife soes not do this as she is so used to this style. Push the chignon pad right down to the scalp as far as it will go and then spread the hair out and around the pad (this is where a little curl in the hair is handy! Actually, it is a bit like icing a do-nut - oerhaps that is the best illustration to give. After the hair is evenly distributed around the chignon pad, use french pins (sometimes called fringe pins) to secure the hair...place these in close to the pad and next to the scalp-hair line all around the pad and hair. A little hair spray, a bun net (if desired) and voila!!! a smart style. Hope this helps AJ
Please let me know where I can buy white hair nets . They are needed for an elder Lady.
