G'day boys and girls,
I am very pleased to finally show you all an updated picture of yours truly (taken beginning of May 2006).
For those who came in late...
I grew my hair for 31 months before getting it all chopped off in September 2003 to appease my family (especially my wonderful mother, albeit one with the unfortunate disposition of hating long hair on men and being a hairdresser besides).
I kept my hair short for 6 boring months until I made the conscious decision to go long again. On February 23, 2004 I had my last major haircut. Since then I have had one proper trim in mid-February 2006.
The second time growing out has been very painful and annoying to me, as I knew what I wanted, and consequently what to expect; I knew it would take years to get there!
The awkward stage was especially bad the second time round for example.
Anyways, here I am, truly longhaired again, and feeling slightly more family support this time.
Example? My mother still can't stand/hates my hair long, yet she did braid it (i.e. the picture here) and I trusted her not to cut it all off while she did so-thus even I have changed!
What do you guys-my hair bretheren, my support group, my friends-think?

Picture 2!
Great looking braid Dean.
26 months is looking good on you.

Hi Dean,
wow, great progress. It only seemed like yesterday that you had short hair, look how long it is now! mid back!
I think that is crazy long and great progress for just over 2 years of growing, starting from buzz.
Any chance of getting some pics with your hair down?
I would love to see you mane down in all its glory.
Nice braid your mother done. Perhaps a little thin, but you might have naturally thin hair texture. Sometimes i see women with these big, chunky braids, so thick, makes me envious :)
My friend has really thin, straight, red hair. It is shoulder length but he plans to grow it to mid-back area.
BTW, i drove through Bondi on Monday. I was looking for a longhaired Dean but didn't see any walking on the street, hehe.
I think we should meet up one day, would be cool. I could get a train to Bondi. Go to the beach, although maybe not in winter, hehehe. Do you love the beach in summer?
I have a holiday house in the central coast and i always look forward to the beach lifestyle when we go there.
I do hope you parents become more supportive of your hair and realise that this is something inside you that makes you want long hair. My mum is so supportive now that it has grown longer. She always gives me compliments about how long it is getting and how i take care of my hair. As soon as i was able to tie a pony she got over the whole layering phase.
Oh well, take care and keep growing your hair. Dude, you are gonna have waist length in about 2 more years , lucky you.
I am only 8 months behind you, and around 4 inches(in theory) shorter , hehehe :)
Excellent hair growth dean
yep
envious
haha i never knew you lived in Bondi...i go there all the time

Dean, I think it is great. What a sweet braid that is! Wonderful that your mother has come around. She knew she would, and she probably loves your hair really, and just won't admit it. You will get the truth out of her one day. If she didn't, she wouldn't have done such a nice braid for you.
Good luck, and great length too!
Fantastic "new" progress and the tail looks great! Wow.........are you ever lucky to have hair that appears to grow at a faster than usual rate. What a shame that your mother has caused you so much trouble. What a triumph that now you are being yourself no matter what. You'll get that 31 months back before you know it and alot more. Bravo!
It makes me so envious to see people here wearing braids =P I hope you're using that style out, you're so lucky =) I'm planing to almost always wear side hanging braid myself when I get the lenght for it... it protects the hair and it won't never tangle =) Gongratulations for the achievement, I'm 6 months behing you =P Good luck achieving your goal =)
Darn you braid-able-to-wear-er people. :P
That's good progress, though, dude - I assumed your hair was a few inches shorter. No fair - my hair refuses to show any progress whatsoever. Oh, the bittersweetness of curls.
I just wish the braid pics were clearer - I can't actually see the braiding, just the line of hair.
And lol, I thought about asking my Mom to try to make a tiny braid for me once, but then I thought of scissors, and Mom became a distaff Edward Scissorshands, so I tried learning to braid myself.
Didn't expect to type half of that, so I'll shut up now. :P
Keep up the good work!
Hi Dean,
congratulations, your hair is doing great, you do look like your true self with long hair, that's obvious. I'm very happy for you, because it is always good to see how someone becomes the person he always was meant to be by his Creator. If only I had been able to prevail against my parents' hair wishes when I was your age! I'm sure your - in all other aspects truely wonderful - mother will understand you better as time goes by, and hair will be a non-issue for your parents - just like it is with my parents today.
Also, I'm certain that you'll always find employment that's just perfect, and a lot of times, it's even better to be different from most people in the crowd. I'm sure, you will never again have to appease anybody hair-wise.
Just as a coincidence - I happen to listen to an African music radio station on the internet, and I just overheard the sentence "Be different" - I think that's very fitting.
Best wishes, and happy growth,
Hans-Uwe
