Hello,
I'm currently at 20 months :D but, my hair was grown out from a buzz cut, so I have to wait until the top layer grows to the length I want until I get it cut; I live in the U.K and I wondered whether anyone could suggest something good to hold my hair in place because as you can imagine the bottom of my hair is still quite 'big'.

I have been growing for almost 19 months, from practically a buzz cut, or something similary short. What is your goal length?
If your goal length is something really long(eg butt length, mid back, waist) then just continue to let your hair grow naturally. Trimming is a synoym for setbacks(sorry Hans, had to steal the one off you), and set backs result in the prolonging of the awkard/growing stages. Only if you want a shoulder length style, and no longer, then you should trim the back and let the bangs grow longer, so as they get longer they will even everything up and eventually your hair will be one length all over. Your hair isn't layered, it's just natural layers, that's how hair grows.
