It seems anything you do to your hair, like coloring, extention, even hairspray and washing damages hair. So what can I do to hair that wont damage it? sounds like we should like put it away in a safe or something to avoid damage.
Is there any point to this post of yours?
You can do whatever you want to your hair, but don't try and make others feel bad for taking care of theirs.
In any case you haven't been growing your hair for a long time yet; perhaps when you do, or when you have really long hair, maybe then you would have a bit more 'cred' in complaining about the long hair experience.
Just remember you can always get an emo cut, or layers, in which case your hair can be long and damaged, and still be part of that 'look'.
Try and be positive for a change Tai Fu.
I think what the guy is saying is that people on here seem to be overly obsessive about damage. I have known plenty of people that have grown their hair and not worried as much as some of the people on here, and its turned out fine
Actually I agree with Dean.
I think all that post was intended to do was get some kind of attention.
Hair is best when left to grow naturally. If you are going to start doing unnatural things to it like colouring it or blasting it with hot air from a hairdryer then you expect it to get damaged.
Tai Fu, just let your hair grow out naturally and don't even thing about doing anything to it. It takes time.
I sorry for being offensive, it didnt even occur to me that this post of mine is offending people. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to hair without doing damage to it, and I dont mean to be sarcastic or anything...
I totally agree with you .... it seems that just being alive is bad for your hair !!
I think its best to just do as little as possible to your hair and let nature take over :D
Personally, I take a bunch of vitamins and try to drink plenty of water - hopefully it'll do some good :)
Women put all sorts of garbage in their hair ALL THE TIME, yet it looks fine to me. I think most of us are being overprotective due to having to actually grow our hair, whereas most women with long hair had grown it when they were very little, so they don't remember the annoyance, the anticipation, and the uncertainty of it all. Maybe we just make too much out of it. Or... maybe they take it for granted? I dunno anymore hahaha
I've always wondered why women have such "neat" looking hair and never dammaged although they color it almost atleast once every 2 months and straighten hair with hot iron and even blow dry. I always wondered why their hair was never so dammaged...and once i think about it, hair is one of the only things that is the exact same between males and females, so it has nothing to do with the type of hair(thank God). Perhaps they know what to use on their hair due to experience from growing all their lives....OR....the products available for "women" are much better than the ones for men. I may buy some stuff from a lady salon for my hair next time and see how things work out :).
It depends on how long you want it. The typical length for most women is about shoulder length, which isn't really very long, but looks much longer if you straighten it. I often notice girls with straightened hair and think it looks really long, then do a reality check and realise that my hair is longer than theirs. Plus, if it is that length to start with and you aren't growing it out you can have maintenance trims every couple of months, so no part of the hair is ever all that old, which minimises the cumulative effects of damage.
Damage is more of a concern if either you are growing it out or it is so long that it would take years to grow out any damage. Both of these hold true for me, but if, say, you just want shaggy hair and you already have it, then damage isn't a major worry, any more than it would be with short hair (I mean above the collar, not buzzed, when it would be of absolute zero importance).
As for colouring, there are two ways to avoid damage. One is to have your roots dyed professionally, so the length isn't constantly dyed over and over again. DIY colouring with synthetic dyes won't be good enough for long hair, due to cumulative damage. OTOH, you need a salon you absolutely trust, as if they make a major mistake it's possible to literally lose all your hair! I suspect that when you see girls with long dyed hair in good condition they are not using those dyes advertised on TV to protect your hair, but instead they are making regular expensive trips to the salon to 'get their roots done'.
The other way is to use henna, but henna and synthetic dyes don't always mix, even in leftover trace amounts. This is only a problem if the henna has metal salts in it, but the chemical reaction can turn your hair green and/or generate enough heat to cause major hair damage. The other problems with henna are lack of coverage and limited range of colours. Pure henna is orange/red, and other things are added to get darker colours, but you can't get blond, for example. I use henna from time to time, but my hair has never has synthetic dye on it.
I think that is the (only) serious answer to what Typhoo, I mean Tai Fu, posted. I bet he is a tea drinker!
I've heard this term here and there, but don't know what it looks like. What exactly does it mean to have your hair in "layers"?
It means that your hair is cut unevenly in length, like in a diagonal, where the bangs are short, and the back is progressively longer.
stop the sarcasm. It really bugs me.
Just was it every couple of days and forget about it.
HAHA
Not exactly need to show it of you could try taking Multivitimins cod liver oil capsules but its not defiant it does your hair any good but theres always a chance instead of looking on the negitive points on what does harm hair suppose you can look at it another way Whats good or bad to eat !

@the complainers: what is so stupid in this question ?
are u in a bad mood or what ?
try to give him answers instead of that crap ...
@taifu:
u r right - principially EVERYTHING is damaging hair (sunlight, physical forces, washing (rubbing the hair surface) etc) ...
hair is like every material - after a period of time it suffers structual failure due to external influences ... but the difference is that PERIOD OF TIME ...
if u care about your hair it will be more protected against this external influences ...
and therefore it's structure will fail later than not caring about it ...
i think it also depends on your hair type ... if u have thick hair i think it's easier to maintain it healthy 'cos it isn't as fragile as fine/thin hair (it's simply stronger 'cos it has a bigger diameter) ...
maybe managing the hair is the bigger problem on thick hair and breakage/damage is the problem with fine hair ...
it's funny: i also thought about some crazy kind of experiment ...
e.g. if you have dry hair so how will your hair look like, if i put a little bag of water on my back where my hair permanently hangs in (refilling the water from time to time of course) ...
will it be healthier then ? or will this permanent 'hair-in- water' thing cause more damage ?
in my eyes u should not be concern about your hair cos as far as i see in the avatar it looks really great and has no damage ...
think positive - even if it's sometimes really hard (believe me - i know that) ...
keep growing,
ALH
