I'd like for you all to meet Gob, my brand new bearded dragon! For those who are not familiar with Arrested Development, Gob is pronounced Jobe, as in the book of Job. On the show, the character's name is commonly mispronounced as Gob like a gob of goo, rhyming with bob. Anyway, I think Gob is about a month or two old (I'm not 100% sure), and he is about 4 or 5 inches long (his body is the size of my thumb, plus the tail). Waiting for him to grow will be like when I was waiting for my hair to grow... meaning it will take forever!!!!
BTW, a question for 80's.... are these common pets in Australia? I know they come from there, but I'm just curious if its a real foreign or American thing to keep bearded dragons as pets. Whats it like down there??
haha thats awesome, I love lizards
Heres a pretty random question for you, I remember a while back you said you had gotten a job at Black Market Minerals and if Im not mistaken it was in orlando...did it happen to be in old town? Reason I ask is because I was walking around there on a school trip about a month ago and saw the store and I was like "hey the dude from the message board works there"
Hahah, yeah, I do work at Black Market Minerals, but not at the one in Old Town. I've actually never even been to Old Town. It's out by Disney and I live about five minutes from downtown, so that's roughly a 25 minute drive for me. I work at the Black Market Minerals at the Fashion Square mall. How'd you like the store?? It's definitely a cool, unique place!
nice lizards... one thing though, lizards especially this size and Cats do not mix... so if you got one keep it the hell away or else.... (I had fishes that died horribly thanks to my cat)
I actually observed my cat eating 2 inch geckos...
Nice lizard dude. So these things are actually called "bearded dragons"? That's cute.
I like his ponytail...ahh, tail sorry :p
Aussies don't have these pets. Maybe in the regional areas but i live in a suburban area near the city. Most familys just have dogs, cats, birds ,ect, nothing extreme for pets. Many Americans have a misconception that Australian people are all earthy people and have koalas and 'roos for pets. It is like that in the country and regional areas, but in the city everyone is totally different. Everyone is hasty, rude and in a hurry. It's just like traffic, pollution, tall buildings, fast food...you get the point. I would love to get back to nature, it is the ultimate. Sometimes all this man-made crap means nothing. Sadly, i think i'm already a urbanised, greedy capitalist, lol. I couldn't live without my technology, fast food, and fast cars. Pretty sad i am.
If you ever come to Australia it's essential to go to Sydney city and check out the buildings, culture, food and drink etc but it would be nice to go to Ayers rock, in Western Aust, the blue mountains, so many nice places just with nature. What the hell am i crapping about? i should stop.
I have to disagree here 80's.
I've had bearded dragons, geckos and even a blue toungued lizard while I lived in Western Sydney and that's hardly a regional area.
Some people do have lizards and such as pets, but there's some pretty strict licencing for them now (which is one of the reasons why I no longer have them :( )
Wow wish we had pets like Kangaroos or Koalas bears for pets over here but i guess it would be to Cold for them :-(
Axel
I think a lot of the American misconception of Australia is because all the animal and nature shows on Discovery Channel, the Crocodile Hunter - Steve Irwin, and such shows like 'McLeod's Daughters' that show here. Then there is the 'Man from Snowy River', 'Thornbirds', 'Quigley Downunder' and so on. All these shows & movies portray a more natural and bucolic setting than what you describe for your country. There used to be this cheesy show that would come on too called 'Paradise Beach' that had Ingo Raedemacher in it who later came to America and is in soap operas now here.
You should go up to Cairns or Darwin, or work on a cattle station for a while in the Northern Territory to get back to nature! Your dream-time wision quest!

He's looking good. I have a beardie myself. His name's Captain Jack Sparrow. Whatever you do when your dragon is little, DO NOT UNDERFEED HIM!!! I did that to Jack without realizing it, so now as an adult he's a little on the runty side. :(
Too bad he can't grow any hair! lol
Here's a pic of Captain:
Your's is lookin good!! How old is he??? Mine wasn't eating much at first, but i upped his bulb from a 60 watt to a 75 watt, and now hes eating like crazy! Mine was also bred by two german giants, so, depending on Gob's gender (hopefully a male so the name will still work heheh), hes gonna get so big!!
Captain is 3 years, 8 months old.
You might consider making Gob's basking light a 200 watt or 300 watt one, depending on which season you want it to be in his terrarium. Captain always acts sick and weird with anything less than 200 watts (he likes to bask). I make to provide a shady, cool area for him though, incase he starts to get too hot.
...CUTE!
