It is wonderful to use as a hair conditioner. Beauticians who are familiar with coconut swear by it. It softens the hair and conditions the scalp. Using the coconut oil as a pre-wash conditioner can rid a person of dandruff better than a medicated shampoo.
Coconut oil, a natural ingredient in the highest sense of the word, has always been recognized for its quality of strengthening the structure of damaged, devitalized hair.
Coconut oil lubricates and softens the hair shaft through the action of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron
This is Coconut oil for hair. Massaging of hair & scalp with a proper nutrient hair oil gives additional nutrition to the scalp and prevents hair loss. Massaging also increases the blood circulation in the scalp & this keeps the hair roots strong.
Coconut oil aids in luxuriant hair growth and also prevents the scalp from getting dry
The small molecular structure of coconut oil allows for easy absorption through the skin, giving it a soft, smooth texture. It makes an ideal ointment for the relief of dry, rough and wrinkled skin. Psoriasis and eczema suffers often see great improvements in these distressing conditions.
Most commercial creams and lotions are predominantly water. Their moisture is quickly absorbed into dry, wrinkled skin. As the water enters the skin, it expands the tissues, like filling a balloon with water, so that wrinkles fade away and the skin feels smoother. But this is only temporary. As soon as the water evaporates or is carried away by the blood stream, the dry, wrinkled skin returns. No matter how hard you try people will never be able to permanently cure dry, wrinkled skin with any commercial body lotion or body care products. Besides the water, most lotions have an oil of some type. This oil is almost always a highly refined vegetable oil devoid of all natural protective antioxidants
Coconut oil will not only bring temporary relief to the skin, but it will aid in healing and repairing. It will have lasting benefits, unlike most lotions. It can help bring back a youthful appearance. The coconut oil will aid in removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother. The skin will become more evenly textured with a healthy "shine". While doing this the coconut oil will penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and strengthen the underlying tissues.

Recipe for Hair: Thirty minutes to One hour before your bath or shower, pour about a half cup of coconut oil on your head. Let it drip down your scalp and down the shafts of hair until your head is pretty much saturated ~ then start massaging your scalp, starting at the forehead and working your way back, then do it again and again until your arms tire. This not only promotes better blood circulation to the roots of the hair, thereby promoting growth, it also works that lovely coconut oil into the scalp, lifting dead skin cells and feeding the fresh new skin underneath. Gently work the oil into the hair itself, using downward strokes to reach the ends ~ dont rub the hair between your hands or scrunch the hair up ~ this causes cuticle damage and begins the hairs journey to Splitsville (thats split ends, by the way). The key word here is 'gently'. Hop in the shower or tub and cleanse your hair with a good clarifying shampoo, preferably organic or natural. Use this treatment on your hair at least once a week. Beware the slippery tub.
When I was a kid my mom would make me apply coconut oil to my hair every few days before I took a shower. Back then I hated that little blue plastic bottle, for the consistency, smell and general "un-coolness" of coconut oil.
Many years have gone by, and I've been growing my hair for a few months now. I was a bit alarmed to see that my black hair was starting to turn a dark brown and I decided to revisit the old coconut oil treatment. I must say that it seems to work really well. I usually leave it in my hair for about an hour before I shampoo/condition.
On a related note, does anybody have opinions on the use of olive oil?
