Hi everybody,
a long-haired friend of mine (30 y, mid-back ponytail) may accept a job as a school teacher at an international high school in Southern China. The employer does not seem to have issues with long-haired males. I said to my friend that China is currently rediscovering its Confucian roots, and his pony tail might even be perceived as a tribute to the cultural roots of his host country.
Is my assumption correct? Who knows anything about the current situation in mainland China, regarding hair?
Thanks a lot for your input.
Hans-Uwe
As far as I know, if he's not Asian (i.e. white, black, latino, etc), the chicks will love him no matter what, so it's all good. :)
...and absoloutely zero relevance to what Hans was asking.
Hans, i can't give you any advice on this one.
Perhaps Tomek is saying that in China, females find non-asian men with long hair very fascinating. I just wonder how the males would react. In any case, if Tomek has been to China, this answer could mean at least, that my friend would not need to fear problems...
Tomek, have you been to China, or have you heard from long-haired men who have been?
Hans-Uwe
Question for Tai Fu:
do you know anything about the situation in mainland China? - Thanks a lot!

I dont know anything about China, but I suspect they dont care about hair, but then I could be wrong.... I think unless you are intending on helping kids there learn English or accept Jesus, I wouldn't go to China, people have like NO rights there. However for some reason if you are not Asian in these countries (Taiwan OR China) then chicks fall for you.... seems like Asians here are treated like dogs... now what kind of racism is that?? you know sucks to be asian sometimes cause your own people discriminates against you, and if you go to America or elsewhere people there disriminates you too.
PS.. please dont write simple form chinese.... I cant even read it, and I already have a bit of trouble reading "traditional" chinese already. as you can see my english is better than my chinese...
Hi Tai Fu,
thanks a lot for your hints, and sorry about the wrong kind of Chinese, it was supposed to be a translation of "thank you" ;-) Well, it's reassuring that certain kinds of Chinese scr ipt are difficult even for people who live there. So far, I only know the characters for "one" (一), "two" (二), and "three" (三) and my friend does not know any Chinese yet... ;-)
I find the Chinese culture fascinating, because it was already highly developed and sophisticated some 2000 years ago, when people in what was to become Germany were still roaming through the bushes... I'd think, people in Asian countries have lots of reasons to foster an appropriate amount of self respect. The "inverse racism" you describe is sad indeed.
I agree that the human rights situation leaves a lot to be desired, and the German Chancellor, Mrs Merkel, has addressed that in her discussion with her Chinese counterparts.
Best wishes,
Hans-Uwe
So your entire reason for posting was to tell me my post was bad? Thanks.
At least I told him his friend would do fine with the ladies.
