Hey there fellows!
I just wanted to show you how my self french braiding is coming along... Actually, I'm finding the most dificult to continue the braid after adding all the possible sections of hair, it is really hard to push the three sections to the frond without undoing them a little... Either ways lol The bangs already fit in the braid but they are still too short to stay there (even for while I finish the braid, they simple come out instantaniously =( )... I just can't wait for the day I'll start to braid my hair daily... it would be a managing relief than =) I hope I don't have to wait much time now... Anyways, here is a picture of how it's going =)
As for the simple basic braid, I'll upload a picture later on... Either ways, because of the thickness of my hair, I will have to wait much more time for the basic braid than for the french braid... Oh well =) I hope you'll coment =P
As for the scalp problem, I have been using Nizoral, which is a treatment shampoo for dandruff and seborhea, and it seems to be working really nice, as it has reduces the itchyness and the redness. Tough those flakes that were stuck to my scalp have now turned into dandruff or so, but I hope they will eventually go away with the frequent use of Nizoral. About the effect of this shampoo on my hair, I have been conditioning my hair after using it and I don't find it as harsh as the latest shampoo I had used before for dandruff... My hair has even become smoother I guess =)
Now some news about my detangling routine... I have been trying to reduce brushing for the last couple of days... I have been brushing my hair in the morning and detangling it with a wide totthed comb (the same I use for wet hair) before going to sleep... The comb really seems to detangle better than the brush and I don't see so many hairs coming out (tough if I brush after combing, several hairs come out)... I would really like to know your opinion about this: what's best, brushed or combs?? Such as for hair health and for hair detangling... I know that I could never quit the brush because it has fullness to my ends and shine to my hair... And it also distributes the oils... Tough with the brush I don't touch my scalp, and I find that the comb does massages the scalp, which is a really good thing =)
I'll be waiting to hear what you guys think =) Thank's for reading!
Wow, that looke pretty awesome! Something I've always dreamt of doing was making a reeeeeeeeeally long braid when my hair gets to about my waist or so.
After seeing this pic I want to do it so much more now! :)
Cool pic João
Good to hear about your scalp mate.
Very nice man, very creative as well. I may consider doing the "french braid" myself when my hair's long enough(maybe in 2 years :( ). I've really seen many ways of making hair, which i never even considered. The cool thing about having long hair is that there are so many ways you can fix it, you'll never get bored of the same hair everyday. THe longer the hair gets the more things you can do with it.
BTW. your hair is looking very healthy and looked after, i don't even think it's even a little dry(regarding your last post).
I have thick hair like you, and you're and inspiration to me and all others with thick hair(awkard stage is hard to deal with when one has thick hair).
Keep growing

As for brushing..i have never used brushing for my hair and combing does the job done. I comb my hair about 4 times a day and after the first time it doesn't even take any hairs out. I comb my hair after i wake up(i don't even fingercomb)...and it really helps. And my hair doesn't tangle for the entire day. As for my opinion....since we have quite similar type of hair i think you would be better off combing more often than brushing...and i would NEVER brush hair when wet.
Hope i could help.
Nice braid! With added length it is going to look majestic.
Your hair is sooo thick dude and always shiny. We are all jealous :)
Glad you have alleviated that nasty scalp problem. Take care.
that looks really great!! and i'm very impressed that you're able to do it yourself. i've tried to do a french braid but i can't do it. keep it growing!!
I guess you can use both. BUT, how do you detangle with a COMB in the MORNING? Isn't your hair dry and isn't it difficult to even have a comb run through your hair? Won't it snag?
Just finger comb in the morning if you don't have MY problem. haha. And when it's wet, yeah, detangling with a wide-toothed comb is the way to go.
And when your hair is dry and UNtangled, use your precious brush. A bristle brush right? I recall you mentioned 'distrubuting oils'. And you can BRUSH you hair before you sleep.
REPEAT. hope this helped.
The French Braid looks fabulous!!!!!!!!
For the tangles, you might want to try "Finger-Combing" your hair 1st before moving on to the wide toothed comb. Makes all much easier.
Hi João,
this looks phantastic! - Several board members have experimented successfully with French Braids (even some of those who admit to harboring some "anti-French" feelings - lol - salutations cordiales à ceux, ha ha ;-) and it usually looks really good.
I'm glad your scalp problems are getting better. When you comb or brush, just make sure you start at the bottom, i.e. you begin by combing only the section of your hair that is the farthest away from the skin. You can apply some oil before detangling to make it easier.
Looking forward to your next updates, and wishing you more happy growth...

Looks wonderful, man. I wish I could do that, but I have a couple months to go. I'd suggest you wait a couple months yourself, though, if the front doesn't fit in the braid well.
