Hey, guys. For any of you that've experienced your hair dreading together (not voluntarily, of course, like you putting the dreads in; the little dreads just form over time), will it stop happening as the hair gets longer? I've discovered a number of dreaded-together hair on my head and pulled apart most of them, and the damage wasn't too bad, but I'm just worried that it might happen again. The 'locks were firm and gluey at the top, terminating into a little ringlet/tube at the bottom. Most of the dreads formed where I didn't brush often - the layer of hair underneath the top hairs a bit above my ears. There's a hair moral in this - comb your hair thoroughly, unless, o' course, you want dreads, in which case don't comb your hair thoroughly. :P
It's worth nothing that some of the dreads were really authentic-looking at the top - the neglect method is quite a good one, it seems, for growing dreadlocks.
Anyhoo, back my question: you guys think this'll get easier as my hair gets longer, or what? Any experience with this?
Thanks. :)
I'm really embarrassed to ask this but...what are dreads? *goes to hide* :)
Dreads are locks of hair that stick together and normally can't be undone after some point. You can't comb your hair but some people love the way they look. You don't have a terminal length with dreads btw.
I found a picture of some guy that might give you a better idea.
Example of dreadsdreads = dreadlocks
the hair style of the rastafarians ...
and the reggae musician bob marley for example ...
a really good looking hair style imho, but it can only be undo with severe damage to the hair or by cutting it ...
and also a good hairstyle to visually overcome terminal length (fallen out hairs or foreign hair is combed into the dreads)
greez and hoped to helped ya :)

i can get severe knots if i don't comb my hair for several days. These knots will eventually turn into dreads if left neglected.
Are you letting it form dreadlocks, or trying to just stay with normal hair?
with dreadlocks, it will become less frequent, but probably never "completely" end.
I've had my dreadlocks for a while now and I still have a couple of dreads that try and cling together over time. . .every few months I go through and pull them apart at the base, and it's usuall only a couple of strands of hair connecting anymore.
That's how I went. . .
Only if you dreadlock!

Well, I'm trying to stay with normal hair, but the hair is very prone to tangling and eventually locking together if left untended. It's like 80's_metal said.
It might actually get a little worse.
A) you have more hair to comb/brush so it's easier to miss spots
B)There's more hair there, so there's more to dread with.
You actually would look pretty cool with dreads, but if you don't want them, then BRUSH LIKE CRAZY!!
Yes, I thought of that. It seems so logically mathematical - more hair = more dreads, but I was just hoping some hair wizard might conjure up some science against it or something. Hey, you can't wish too much. :P
I've considered dreads for a long time now, actually, and I think they'd suit me too. If my hair doesn't reach at least waist-length when curly, I think I'll get dreads. Not my mom's cup o' tea (or even water, for that matter, lol), but hey...
I'm just sort of ambivalent about brushing/combing my hair. I hate using an actual comb because it rips through tangles a lot easier even when I'm doing it gently, but then finger-combing doesn't seem to do the job as well. *sighs* Oh well, I'll think of something.
