So I've been googling Johnny Damon to see how he looked with long hair in the past, and it just amazed me how the media seemed to make his long hair, longer than it actually was.
His hair barely was shoulder length, if that, but yet they made it out to be like he was an Axl Rose rocker or something, in their descriptions.
Perhaps the media just freaks out at guys with long hair in general???
But given that, it does seem that Damon received more positive publicity for his hair than negative.

One thing the media is also feasting on, is Tom Hank's hair in "The Davinci Code", calling it a mullet, and making it look outrageous:
Tom Hank's hair in the Da Vinci Code, to my standards is quite short, and has nothing impressive. I don't even know if it should be called a mullet. In Montreal, this hair style was quite popular amongst "New Age" gurus, and trippers, as the hippie mystics of the sixties and seventies, wanted to cash in by starting "New Age" trends like crystals, rolfing, meditations, etc....
Tom Hanks has short hair in my opinion, and the media is making a long-haired character out of him.

In the above link, is a MSNBC take on Hank's hair, descriped as a "flowing mane", for crying out loud, it is short, and undescript in my eyes... nothing to make a scandal about. It is not what I call really great looking, I think if he had hair to his shoulders it would be much better for the character.
Whtat gets me is what the media are making out of hair today.
And for the real acid test:
For those in Québec, and who understand French, I will be making a TV appearance on a talk show called "Denis Levesque", it will be about Autism. I will show up in jeans with my hair loose. I have made previous TV appearances, and always have been myself. In the late 90's and early 2000's never was my hair in the way. If Denis Levesque, (The talk show host) makes quips about my hair, I will reply intelligently). I will also make the show stay on the subject, and maybe make him a bit embarassed by saying: We are here to talk about autism, and not about hair length. I will tie my hair it it has a "bad hair day look".
The show will air tonight at 19pm on LCN (Le Canal Nouvelles), which is only availiable on cable in Québec.
Included is a grab from a CBC interview about Asperger's Syndrome. I am on campus talking about how I cope with Asperger's Syndrome, as you see I am myself, and the interviewer had a lot of respect. My hair was very visible throughout the show, and at not time was there any mention of my hair.
I will talk about my hair in the context of Asperger's Syndrome, as a part of me, and that I do not follow fashions because as part of my condition I cannot handle changes, and especially if they contradict past trends. However I want the show to stick to the subject of autism, as a service to the community.
Have a nice day,
Georges in Montreal.
I live a stones throw from Fenway park, the media never did that. The length of his hair was obvious. All you had to
do was watch him.
Damon was a hometown hero, he and the other team members brought a world series win to the Boston fans. Of course he turned
traitor when he cut his hair and signed with the evil New York
Yankees.
The purpose of the media is to sell papers. And Domon did that
and more.
Yes I would agree.
Friends,
Indulge me in a prophecy. Time will come when the Yanks beg JD to let his hair grow. Like Sampson in the ancient writ, he allowed his hair to be cut for the wrong reasons. Even now, I am sure Johnnie is regretting that he cut off the external symbol of his power, only to discover that the seriously atenuated the power itself. Those of us who are or have been fans, may e-mail or write him, telling him that you hope he can become yet a brighter star. Encourage Johnnie. Lewt it grow.
